I got into guns and always had him pose with them.
Now he’s dead (at 19) and I can’t get back into guns when they just made me think of him?

How do you get over this?

I love him to death. I’ve been leaving flowers and stuff at his grave nonstop. Someone else was so nice as to plant rose bushes for him.

I don’t feel like buying another gun, I don’t even feel like carrying during the mourning period, but I’m also not going to get rid of most when they’re stuff he posed with all the time and those silly photos are now nostalgic

Control game are indeed amoral not appeal to the peak intelligence, but just moral, secure and productive enough for the surival baseline for the majority and become the societal norm that we observe. It would take many life times of the sociopath for sins to erode the virtue and other ancestral legacy away below surival, then society collapse.
It doesn't require supreme intelligence, only 5 iq more and a little of the social capital and you can control a being with less mental faculty to see through the fabric into contributing more for someone elses social capital.
With greater iq gap, conversation become unintelligible. The unintelligible cannot understand, therefore require proxy to translate it into the only language they can understand--force.

The “worst” part about it was that it happened by surprise: he had been sick but was on meds and getting better, regaining weight and walking around a lot so I didn’t think I’d lose him so soon.

That’s actually a good thing since he didn’t suffer and died surrounded by family purring. Guns will always be linked with him in my mind since he was a former stray and prolific hunter till old age.

Nothing special. Just purina, fancy feast and other mid grade food. He had cancer once (skin) but they caught it early and he was fine. Years later he got lymphoma and I was in denial over how bad it was since with medication he was regaining weight.
If I had been a little more aggressive, spent a little more he would probably have lived a couple more years but it’s now all a what if
I’m at least a bit happy that he was fine and active up till a week before his death

Went through my photos and realized the Makarov was the last gun he sat/posed with. I reloaded it and put in my car safe

Thanks for the menu. My previous cat had died of cancer too, at seven.
My way of dealing with it is not thinking about it. It's obviously impossible to completely forget but I never ponder. I've watched the pictures of her maybe once in these couple of years. A short mourning period is understandable but life must go on. A loving wife want his man to marry again if she dies, not to sacrifice his live in her memory.
It gets easier with subsequent pets as you realize that small animals don't live long. You KNOW that the day will come and have plenty of time to brace yourself for that while still enjoying every moment.

I couldn't believe it either. We adopted her in 2012 and she was already 8-9 at the time so we figured she'd be around for another few years like most cats.
Besides the fact she couldn't jump very high anymore (sore hips probably) you'd never think she was very old. I miss her very much, I didn't expect to have her for an additional 11 years from adopting her.

Losing a pet is hard. Think about it like this, OP. Now, your guns represent the connection you had with your cat. Obviously, you're not going to just up and forget about her. But, unfortunately, we do have to keep going even though its painful. And, if you decide its time, you can make a new friend to share guns with. You'll eventually feel better, but give yourself some time man. You're gonna be fine.
