Batteries and ammo are expensive/heavy

Miniguns also are of incredibly limited utility as an infantry weapon. They make sense for vehicles because you have to throw down a lot of fucking lead to hit anything if you're on the move. But if you're a relatively stationary infantryman, you can kill most targets easily with just a run-of-the-mill M240.

As soon as we figure out a good battery source to power them we will

Microguns don't count?

>no counterweight
This would be horribly uncomfortable after like 2 minutes as you would have to constantly fight gravity in order to not fall over.

The minigun has a waldo connected to the backpack.

pretty much this. no point in carrying around a weapon that heavy with that ROF when enough ammo to feed it for a decent amount of time would be a concern. as far as man-portable ways to say "fuck off" with a high ROF an MG3 would be far more practical.

also you reminded me of the dillon aero SUVs they make with the m134... if only i won the lottery.

They arent used in combat dingus. Your animes dont count.

The biggest obstacle isn't the weight per se, but the recoil. Richochets could be a problem as would the absolute lethality (via volume of fire) of otherwise meh friendly fire incidents. Grunts just cant really be trusted with all the firepower.

Why would you need a minigun? You already have 1 to 2 M249s in your squad. Additionally at the platoon level you have 1 to 2 M240s on top of that.

Maybe if you had soldiers built like Jesse Venture instead of the Pilsbury Dough Boy it would be feasible.

that's dumb, they're too impractical

we need recreational miniguns for civilians

Listen to the actual rate of fire during behind the scenes filming. The movie sound is underselling how fast it is firing.

Just use gas operation to spin like the XM133.

Of course nowadays even the MG42's 1200rpm is considered too fast so there's no chance.

This, the shit they do can be reasonable covered by guns with significantly less drawbacks so it's a simple trade off
Now, shit like an automatic grenade launcher with programmable rounds for example brings new shit to the table so I'd wager we're gonna see them way sooner
