Cope.
The f22 only has 2d thrust vectoring

Too bad we're about 40 years too late to have dogfights anymore
Anonymous No.64118880
They began the basic research for it between the 90s (AL-41F) and mid 2000s, usually they hit a wall when the prototype needs a lot of polishing to fix the details (material science, mechanical parts like bearing, coats). If my theory is correct and the AL-51 actually is the Salyut AL-31FM3 transferred to Saturn that added improvements then it probably could be flying by now if Putin had allowed China to keep financing the FM 1-3 family and buying those engines.

NTA, being able to point the nose quickly isn't only good for dogfights, if you are BVR being able to launch and turn tail is handy.
If it wasn't the F-22 wouldn't have vectoring.

Thrust vectoring bleeds lots of speed at high speed and you have 20+ seconds to notch or turn 180 anyways

Nice digits but what matters more is thrust to weight at this point, being able to recommit high and fast after launching and turning tail.

I wish I was smart enough to design a jet ;_;
There's so much knowledge locked behind math skills.

So does the su-57, it uses 2D thrust vectoring only it's ~30 degrees off-axis compared to the F-22, which is purely vertical. The F-22 can do super-efficient tight turns with the thrust vectoring, but this is impossible for the Su-57, because in order to get only vertical thrust vectoring the two nozzles have to cancel out the horizontal component, thus wasting a good chunk of your thrust. They traded that for increased maneuverability on the horizontal axis, which is a useless capability in BVR and only somewhat useful in WVR

very useful at near stall speeds during airshows, which are the most important feature of russian aircraft
Anonymous No.64119581 >>64122414
I sure hope so because at current production rates they're still twenty years behind an aircraft which stopped being built a decade ago.

I thought this too but I got chatGPT to help me design my first fixed wing since I'm not an aerodynamicist. Planning on working my way up to jet engines eventually.

chatgpt is just copying other people's designs, it doesnt actually know any more about aerodynamics than you do. there is a plethora of information on the internet about building model airplanes, go read about them and start building shit out of styrofoam and hot glue. it's not as hard as you think. don't outsource your thinking to a stupid AI that is basically an advanced version of the predictive text feature on your phone keyboard, that's some shameful shit and you're better than that anon, no matter how little you may believe in your own intelligence.

you seem a little more reasonable. I should have phrased it better, and I don't want to hijack the thread but when I say it helped design, I mean I asked it things like
airfoil selection and dimensions.

You're retarded, at BVR speeds the aircraft is structurally limited, not lift limited. You also want sustained turn rate not bleed-like-a-stuck-pig instantaneous turn rate, and every pound of thrust helping you angle the aircraft not only acts against the lift vector, it also reduces your forward thrust. Thrust vectoring is only relevant in BVR insofar as it can help reduce trim drag, but otherwise it's very much a WVR thing.

Most of the math is just to filter retards, the majority of math an aerodynamicist does is done via computers, and the most you need to know is how to take an derivative/integral of a polynomial. Only controls people have to fuck with the harder stuff
