Ar15 Respectfully Kinda Dog
Like they had to add a button for when it stops working in literal life and death situations and ar fans will use it as an excuse of why it’s the best rifle ever. It’s like actual cult behavior.

ARs do suck, but the fact that they give the user cancer and are limited by a magwell that was originally designed for a literal squirrel cartridge are even worse than the forward assist.

The AK's charging handle is attached directly to the bolt carrier so you can smack it to force the bolt to close. The AR has a non reciprocating charging handle, and pushing forward on it does nothing.

The AR has the advantage of being ambidextrous and not breaking bones if you hold it wrong. A reciprocating charging handle has its merits, but there's also a reason nothing uses them anymore.

Why do people dislike the FA? Is it for aesthetic reasons? The negligible amount of weight it adds?

Literally all of the early rifles that had to avoid Browning's patent on the charging handle.

lack of experience using an actual gun and too much experience watching (You)tube. speaking of, delta34 or some other guntuber has a video up of people running his course with various ar's, surprise surprise the only person that couldn't clear malfunctions had a non-fa upper reciever. it's an iq test at the end of the day

the ar not having a side charging handle allows the receiver to be more closed. there is no long cutout in the side of the receiver for the charging handle to move through (just a hole in the back that is mostly sealed) and there can be a dust cover over the ejection port. this helps keep dirt and debris out of the action. gas that escapes around the charging handle and through the vent holes in the bolt carrier blows dirt and debris out of the way.

The FNC and Galil ACE solved the charging handle cutout problem with a spring-loaded dust cover.
>>64125221
Fun fact: Yugoslavia was going to give their M70 a LRBHO, but it would've made the rifle incompatible with existing AK magazines, so they just compromised and created a new magazine follower that would hold the bolt open on empty. The 5.56 Galil ACE that uses its own proprietary mags has this feature.

I do not understand why some people have trouble understanding why it might be beneficial to have some means of manipulating the bolt carrier. At this point I think they're just being willingly obstinate.

The reason is that everyone uses ARs.

The entire premise is wrong in the first place. You don’t need a reciprocating charging handle to be able to put forward force on the bolt. Many popular firearms have this feature.

As other anons have already pointed out, it's midwit momentum.
The only types I see bitching and moaning about the FA are either nogunz, or metrosexuals who want their gun to look "pretty".

Like I've had to personally explain to people one on one why the FA is good and if they aren't just being contrarian, it's because they GENUINELY didn't understand that the charging handle only interacts with the bolt and piston when you are moving it rearward.
Another anecdote for me at least is using the FA on more than one occasion because I wasn't sure if I had a round in the chamber. Pulled the CH back slightly, saw the shine of brass, then mashed the FA. As you said it's incredibly useful and I have never heard of it being a point of failure, like contrarians really love to say.

Never happens unless your gun is an absolute shitter, and even then it has to be an exceptionally bad shitter and owned by a negligent nigger who doesn't maintain it.

On the one hand I have run a wide, wide variety of rounds through the same ar15 on the same day and had no problems. From severely overpressure or over-rapid burning 5.56 solid copper 55gr loadings to very mild 77gr otm .223.

On the other hand I have never run a gun long enough without cleaning or hard enough for sustained high volume of "heavy hitting" rounds or to enough wear that I have seen feed issue problems.

Maybe the FA is worth it, maybe not, to be honest I can't say.
