10 days in the glades
Propose, you are dropped off in the middle of the everglades for ten days. You are surrounded by swamp and even if you decided to hoof it out, it would take you at least ten days. At the end of the ten days you get airlifted out. You are allowed to bring one gun, with as much ammo as you need, to get thru the ten days. What gun and why?

Unironically a revolver. Colt anaconda seems appropriate. It won't get too bothered by the mud and has enough oomph to waste anything out there. Plus it gets bonus points for styling.

Not a bad suggestion, anon. There are some rather large beasts in those swamps, big cats and stuff. Things that something like a 9mm may not resolve very well.

Which gun will kill every bloodsucker near me? Impossibilities aside, I'll be the first to make the boring choice and select a short AR with a bottle of lube in the handle. One of those maritime 590s sawed off might also be cool. If walking won't get me out before the time limit, I'd probably just try to do some bushcrafting to set myself up in one place as cozily as possible, ammo weight wouldn't matter as much in that case.

Weight would be a serious concern. Polymer 10mm with a few mags.

There unironically is not a single thing in the Everglades that can kill you that you'd be able to shoot.
>Inb4 muh alligators
Chill as fuck, nearly no reaction to humans if you don't fuck with them. Black bear have a limited range and like everywhere else are just big raccoons. Panther are rare as fuck and avoid humans. Both the latter you're in forest anyway.

Snakes and a handful of spiders are the actual risk. As far as annoyance factor I n f i n a t e mosquitoes with a density of 1 per centimeter in the air if you're in some places during the wet season.
You need snake boots, full waders ideally, and to be completely buttoned up with long pants, bloused boots, tucked shirt, gloves, and a hat with mosquito net to make it tolerable. It's also a 110° heat index right now with 99.9% humidity.

There also isn't a single place you could be dropped where you can walk that isn't like a day or two from civilization. If the water level is below 10ft and you can slog, you can wade your way out if you know where west north or east is. It happens more commonly than you think when people crash airboats and shit tens of miles out into the glades.

The 590 would be a peak choice as well, perfectly adequate for all life in the glades
>>64125094
Thats a fair concern if you intend to stay on the move. You definitely have the choice to hunker down in place and try and sustain for the time.

I figure either a 10/22 or a nice 20ga. There's not much of a threat to worry about other than stuff that guns aren't very good for, like mosquitoes. 22 or shotty would be fine for killing something to eat it.

Huh? You mean I don't have the required supplies? Hahahahah! In that case just a .410 derringer with one bullet.

This guy gets it, one time I went backcountry camping there and I never saw a single gator, but as soon as the sun goes down the air turns into a cloud of mosquitos. There's also a surprising amount of boat traffic in the wilderness waterway, just flag one down and GTFO. A way to make fire to boil water/cook fish with is much more important than a gun IMO, but if I had to take one it's picrel because of miami vice

Plus at less than 4lbs it beats the fuck out of lugging around a rifle.
But right now fuck that shit, it is so damned hot that I'd rather you just shoot me. Maybe in January.
The real problem would be water that didn't make you shit your guts out and food. No matter what you do you are leaving with several tropical diseases.
Realistically you get mogged by an alligator before you could get out. That or a bear. A bear killed a man last month and it wasn't even in the real wild down there.
There are at least two plants that if you brush against them will ruin your life if you don't straight up die.

>I have to bring one of my guns to survive in the Everglades for 10 days
Norinco 1887 lever action Shotgun.
Why? Easiest gun to get food with, and could stop a bear, gator or skunk ape. I'd rather have another shotgun that's less likely to get gummed up, but it's the only 12ga shotgun I own.

>I have to survive in the everglades for 10 days with a free new gun
.45 Sites Spectre Carbine. One mag full of CCI .45 shotshell, rest JHP.

A with a smattering of M662, M576, and M446 rounds. Stay put, pop up a red star shell a couple of times an hour, hopefully I get to try the M576 on an alligator, voila. I'll be in and out before food and water become a concern.

The float along the surface and sun themselves for most of the day. You can literally walk up to an alligator and shoot it in the base of the skull anywhere in the southern United States where there is low hunting pressure. We have a bag limit and the tags are expensive as hell to even get that because they were over hunted for decades in Florida and became a "threatened" species. The babies are also low-key annoying if you're fishing, they'll go after baits.

You bring a pole if you're in waist deep water with waders and if the pole disappears where your next step would be it's an alligator hole, simple as.

I bring the Permethrin instead of DEET. Fuck mosquitos and fuck their larva.
Also I bring a Mossberg Mariner with buckshot, birdshot, and rifled slugs.
Also I bring a hatchet, a swiss army knife, and some twine. If I'm stuck in a shitty swamp for 10 days I may as well try to make a makeshift shelter.
