Because ultimately, authoritarian shitholes with highly centralised powerstructures need their army to stay weak, lethargic, slow to act, uncoordinated, and itโs leadership incompetent to prevent a coup by some savvy general or other. The chink boat collision shows perfectly what iโm talking about, chinks have a massive guided missile destroyer that could (if theyโre not a technological paper tiger as well which we donโt know) go toe to toe with an arleigh burke, and what do they use it for? Trying to ram a flip coastguard cutter.
Even AFTER the crash and failed ramming attempt, the captain of this supremely expensive and brand new crown jewel of the chinese navy decided that instead of getting some situational awareness, or checking to see if his comrade ship was sinking and rendering aid if needed, he decided to KEEP chasing the flip boat and failed another ramming attempt.
If these are the kinds of people controlling that navy and this is their level of coordination and priority setting, then theyโre absolutely ultra mega fucked in a naval battle against the US where theyโre in a 1000x more complicated situation and have to somehow make the best decision with dozens of unknown and hundreds of times more information to process.
Ultimately i think chinese leadership is aware of this, more so than russia, and thatโs why theyโre so scared to commit to any real conflict, if it exposes this hidden layer of incompetence then all of chinaโs bravado, intimidation and soft power dissapears overnight.
