Help, an armed man invaded my house three years ago, I still haven't been able to kick him out despite having castle doctrine and stand-your-ground laws in my state, in other words I have a legal right to kill him, and I have plenty of guns and ammo, but he's just been hanging out in the living room for three years and I can't go in there.

What do I do? 4chan's weapons subreddit tells me I'm actually winning here, but I'm not so sure.

Calculated drop on a .338 lapua magnum is 30 mils at 2000y, so they were probably at least 60 mils above the target, in other words aiming off into empty space 240 yards above the target. With windage they were probably aiming 20-30mils left or right, again into empty space.

Not to mention the projectile has already shaved off 85% of its energy at 2000y to a paltry 690ftlb, I can't even imagine how puny it is at 4000.

You could probably fire off pot shots for an entire day and never actually come within 2 yards of the target. I find it far more likely they were just firing off blindly and some guy on the ground or significantly ahead of them took the kill shot

The Ukrainians broke the record two years ago, anon. Canada hasn't been top since then. Regardless, many nations, such as the UK, classify their sniper shots if they're done by SAS/E Squadron. Canada didn't. Also 90% of long range sniper shots are done by .50BMG or higher. Ukraine is the only nation running 12.7Γ—114 mm HL. The 5th longest in the world was achieved with .338 Lapua Magnum (LockBase B408) and was impressive because the guy hit three targets at that range (two gunners and their PKM).

But as I said Viacheslav Kovalskyi has the longest range kill with MCR Horizon's Lord, which as I said, fires 12.7Γ—114 mm HL

>Definitely not the new record IMO
We've been spoiled by the amount of quality combat footage we get lately. If a longest sniper shot requires public HD video proof of the target's head exploding then we should go through the Wikipedia list of longest sniper shots and scrub 95% of them.
Most events like this in history are believed besides people there said it happened and their military awarded a medal and it was written down in a report.
This shit quality video is more than we would have expected to get from a reported sniper kill before we started binge watching 1080p drone videos. But even with a relatively good video you can sit here asking >>64128571 how do we know this was filmed 3800m and not half that and slowed down, or the entire thing could be a LARP with some guys told to fall down, there's not enough for a geolocation or anything.
I'd honestly have more confidence having an opinion based on the translation of a Telegram post where they tell the story, or 'behind the scenes' footage of them setting up and comments from other Ukrainian operators who worked with the sniper, than I would from contextless grainy kilometers away footage of a shot.

>How do this companies go from making lube to FUCKING CANNON
If I had to guess while speaking entirely out of my ass? I'd say that after the clankening and with round 2 on the horizon, the Ukrainian government started putting out feelers to domestic industry for weapons design and manufacture and Hado had enough vertical integration (ie. making their own tools/dies/parts/etc.) to throw their hat in the ring and hired someone to design a rifle for them.

No disrespect to anyone involved but "a really big bolt-action rifle" isn't exactly kraut space magic at this point; the Soviets made almost half a million PTRDs during WWII.
>>64129590
Because unironically if you have machinery and real engineers, you can make pretty much anything, and firearms are on the simpler side of tings to do.
>>64128337
How far are we from fully automated/remote sniper systems?
>>64129873
I don't know about automated, but haven't remote-operated gun platforms been a thing for quite a while now? I know for a fact they're being used in Ukraine given that we got that one video of the remotely controlled machine gun with a FLIR scope on it and IIRC the Israelis use something similar.
>>64129954
I know about the israeli systems, I'm wondering what makes it difficult to automate sniper systems.
Is it just the economics since they have to operate close to the enemy or something else?

That's the same level of stupid as describing ballistic trajectory algorithms that don't involve training a neural network as 'AI'.
>>64130390
AGI already exists and has since the 90s and AI via neiural nets and posiive and negative reeforcement learning has been advanced well ahead of what the public now see and deployed in muitions since at least the late 80s .
