Why does the Abrams suck so much? We should've bought Leopard 2AV when we had the chance even if Germans cheated on the trials.

bvsed. it was a shame americans noticed it was too fast. even stripped of its armor and most electronics it was still proven superior to abrams prototypes until the last steps of the program.

How come that such a small and slow bomb makes such huge explosion of such heavy vehicle? Only serious answers please.

Its a T-55 with an exposed ammunition carousel on the inside, so a solid hit detonates all the ammo

Soviets didn't care about safety or stability, their most insensitive explosive was "Comp B" (TG-40), the rest goes from blyat to turbo blyat.

So drones would be less effective if ammo is better stored? Do they have some explosives, some armor penetrator or the combination of these? Do they have 100% destruction after hitting the target effectiveness?

cont. I mean, destroying the tank with an another tank's gun I can understand. But I have just thought that destroying it with an equivalent of a hand grenade is just wtf. Might have been sleeping under some rock for the last few decades, idk.

what happened to the m1e3? Why aren't they live testing it against drones in ukraine?

Its more about crew survivability because at the end of the day its either a tank kill (ammo cooks off outside the tank through a blowout panel) or its a tank kill (ammo cooks off in the crew compartment).

Most videos of the tanks look like they're unsupported, and improperly used. You see the tanks taking point and shooting guys point blank up close. They're probably supposed to have some sort of formation and security around them taking care of anything before they ever get close to enemy infantry. When they were used by american forces they were hitting targets a mile away or more, and they probably made sure they were going to have stupid on foot sneak attacks be any possibility

The US made numerous thunder runs as a doctrinal armor-first push. But 20 years ago all infantry had was RPGs, now they have top attack ATGMs and remote-controlled mines at the company level.

Most things filmed are usually low-intensity from done operators or go-pros. I would love to see some early invasion footage where they actually had the hardware and see devastating losses in their actual push, but if there's footage then nobody released it.

>Hedgehogs? Mortars? WWII technology?

It's a battery of AT-3 Sagger wire-guided anti-tank guided missiles. The AT-3 was already quite an obsolete design by the time of the Yugoslav Wars, having entered service in 1963 and seen extensive use in the Vietnam War and Arab-Israeli conflicts.

Yes they were, by both sides. Persian Gulf War and the Iraq War too. They actually proved quite effective against Western tanks until the Israelis came up with the technique of blanketing suspected AT-3 positions with artillery to kill the exposed operators.
