Today I learned that regular .45 ACP ammo is inherently subsonic. Therefor, there is no need to purchase specialized ammo for suppressed weapons.

you mean ammo with a slightly heavier bullet? subsonic 9mm is also still cheaper per round than the cheapest .45acp you can find online.

maybe you should keep learning so you can find out .45acp is actually louder (and less reliable) suppressed than subsonic 9mm.

Shoot whatever you want that you can afford.
I just happen to like .45 because I fell for the 1911 meme. .300 blackout is just a hipster pcc round.

You should get a .45 pistol with a suppressor and larp as Solid Snake.

.45 is loud as fuck in an enclosed area even with earpro. If it is quieter than 9mm, I am unable to tell the difference.

~150gr 9x19 is also inherently subsonic, as is 200gr .40 S&W, and damn near every .380 ACP.

>.300 blackout is just a hipster pcc round
You can also shoot supers for about 1400ft-lbs anon, can't do that with a PCC.

wdym? its just 147gr, bro. Very common and the smart choice to buy for general range use if you use 147gr JHPs for defense.

OP's post was about subsonic shooting. .300 blackout is a specialized round for subsonic shooting. If you are using supersonic .300, why not use 5.56 and get 3,000 feet per second?

He's not no guns. 147gr 9mm and 180gr .40 are both cheaper than .45 and .40 also happens to have more power and capacity than .45.

That fact that they make a big deal about subsonic loadings and there are short barrelled uppers available for it.

>If you are using supersonic .300, why not use 5.56 and get 3,000 feet per second?
Because subsonic 5.56 is pathetic and doesn't cycle the action. The idea is you have flexibility, if you need to reach out and touch something you're only a mag change away from that rather than holding a useless 9x19 and your limp dick.

>>64131002

You're relying on a piss weak load there, those SHOULD be supers and I wouldn't trust BudgetCo ammo to be consistent.

This man is your friend. I too fell for the "inherently subsonic" vidya meme. 147 grain 9mm is also subsonic and works without issue in most 9mm guns.

Isn't the standard loading for .45 230gr? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that 230 > 180.
Anonymous No.64131551

>Isn't the standard loading for .45 230gr?
Not really, the standard most people get in .45 is somwhere between 165gr and 230gr (you can get lighter or heavier bullets, but what most people buy is in this range). Meanwhile, the standard for .40 and 10mm is somewhere in between 180gr and 230gr. So, they really do weigh about the same.

These anons are right OP, bore diameter makes quite a difference when shooting suppressed, bigger bore will usually be louder, all else being equal, plus 9mm is almost always cheaper.

.32 and .380 loads are also mostly subsonic, but for straight blowback it usually helps to have an oversized suppressor (9mm for a .32, .40/.45 for a .380) so as not to get excessive port pop
Anonymous No.64132240 >>64132915
>Louder
>'inherently louder'
What does that mean precisely?

.45 ACP does not have a supersonic crack.

NTA, but the highest power 10mm is near mid upper tier for .357 magnum energy, at least the loads you would want to shoot, they are fairly comparable.

Additionally, the most capacity you get in a .357 is 8, or 10 if you get a deagle/coonan. 10mm usually comes in capacities of 10-15.

Unless you have other guns in .357, 10mm is an easy alternative.
Anonymous No.64132915
>>64132240
Subsonic 9mm also does not have a supersonic crack. Generally, because of the larger through-bore diameter, more gas escapes out of the suppressor without being trapped and cooled. You can look up dB levels from companies that offer 9mm and 45 suppressors of the same design (sico osprey, dead air mojave, rugged obsidian) and all of the 45 measurements are 5-8 dB louder than the 9mm measurements. Even 9mm is louder going through a 45 suppressor because of extra through-bore. Even if the muzzle velocity and chamber pressure are lower (inherently better for suppression) the extra through bore diameter makes .45 suppressors less efficient and negates both advantages all other factors being equal.

Except there are no good 147gr subsonic JHPs. 45 JHP subs work great but 9 for whatever reason regularly fails to expand in subsonic loads. Grated we're shooting pistol calibers here, just send another 3 into the asshole's chest if 1 wasn't enough

that's a pretty bold claim with the number of people who go missing every year. Missing people in NPS are pretty much the responsibility of the local podunk sheriff to try to find and the NPS literally refuses to talk about how many people go missing every year and aren't found.

in what realistic scenario would a civilian be performing mag swaps between subsonic and supersonic ammo in a self defense situation? you're also ignoring the fact that even if you were to do that, the zero is now completely fucked, and if the gun is gassed for subs it's going to beat the shit out of itself running supers (granted this is less of an immediate problem than the zero being completely fucked). this shit is the biggest meme imaginable.

the post he was replying to is >>64130890 in which anon states a muzzle energy of 1400 ft lbs, which is the muzzle energy of 300blk supers out of a 16" barrel. 55gr 5.56 goes about 3000 fps out of a 16" barrel. out of an 8" barrel, 110gr 300blk supers are achieving more like 1000 ft lbs of muzzle energy, not 1400. try to keep up, retard.
