>What are the odds that I’d blunder a picture of a dog skull and there would be a dog skull expert ITT [...] what are the odds?
I'm no expert just someone into taxidermy and bones because I like to learn about animals lol. (read: nerd)
>Not all though, right? Like a borzoi should have a pretty long one.
You're right there, I mean in general/on average. Can't say I've ever seen a borzoi skull; that thing would probably be something straight out of a horror movie lol. Even a grayhound or whippet might be nuts. I also forgot a lot of dogs (relative to their skull length/snout height) have relatively tall braincases/tall eyebrow ridges compared to wolves.
>I’m vaguely aware that dogs are sort of an affront against nature. Like a middle finger to Darwin. Is this true?
Most dogs are reasonable if a little fucked up compared to a wolf, the worst being small dogs mostly. But pugs...holy fuck no wonder they have respiratory issues. No snout to speak of meaning they have no room for their tongue, their eyesockets are too small/don't have any surrounding bone to hold their damn eyes in properly IIRC, and I'm sure I'm missing more. And Shih-tsus have basically the same issues. I have to wonder how in general the taller+shorter braincase affects dogs, but I'm sure that's one of the side-effects of selecting for aggression removal; canines tend to get rounded ears, etc. when selected for being "friendlier"/more domesticated each generation (see: silver fox domestication).
>I find my own skulls
>W-what?
I walk in the woods and find skulls anon, nothing crazy lol. Wild animals die, they get eaten and picked at, and often the head is left pretty well intact (maybe minus jaws). Eventually I'll often find it once it's picked clean and all I gotta do is the remaining 1% of the work with soap (degrease/remove dirt), a brush, and maybe 3% peroxide to disinfect. Then glue teeth in/jaw halves back together (water soluble so it can be reversed in case of mistakes).
