What's the consensus on shotguns? Is there any point when you can have 30 round rifles?

For what?
They are great for hunting, home defence, clays, targets and trench clearing.
They are terrible beyond ~50 meters.

Think of them as competition to a SMG in military terms rather than competition to a rifle.

Even SMGs are arguably obsolete now that compact assault rifles are commonly available.

You must play a lot of FPS

Yes, I also shoot clays poorly.

>What's the consensus on shotguns?
They're a specialist tool for shooting small fast-moving targets at close range; think birds, squirrels, and things that pretend to be birds and squirrels, like clays.

>Is there any point when you can have 30 round rifles?
For a proper fighting weapon? Lolno. For clay sports, hunting, or defense on a budget they're great. And while they might not be the optimal min-maxed defensive weapon, they're plenty good enough.

Let's see
>good shotguns can be had for ~100-150 bucks less than the cheapest PSA
>ammo is roughly the same cost as 9mm per round
>can shoot a lot of things that a rifle simply can't
>people have been hit in the torso with 5.56 and lived to tell the tale, whole lot less can say the same with buckshot
If you let your mind simply weigh guns by their effectiveness on a battlefield, you will never understand the true beauty of guns

They have niche applications in combat but there's good reason the average grunt is packing a rifle and not a shotgun. Ballistically a shotgun is about the same as a black powder musket. For most things we've moved on from that.

>>but but but it kills people dead
yeah damn right it does. But a rifle kills more people dead faster and at longer ranges, with less recoil and smaller lighter ammunition.

What are you talking about?

Target 12ga is around 25-30cpr which is roughly the going rate of 9mm fmj

If you’re shooting people with target loads, you’re doing it wrong.

Nothing short of a .308 with the right loads is as effective as a shotgun at stopping an attacker right fucking now. There's a single Gucci 5.56 load thats even in the same zip code in terms of effectiveness and that's debatable. This always has and always will give the 12g shotgun a meaningful niche for self defense use.
>>64132972
Are you being retarded on purpose? Anybody who actually shoots a decent amount is using FMJ for their 9mm practice ammo, not expensive self defense ammo. Comparing target loads to target loads is correct when talking about training costs.

Nobody ever said "Thank God I was shot by a Benelli M4 instead of an AR-15!"

Wow, thirty lethal projectiles? That's crazy, man.
Hey, could you help me with a little math problem? What's (9+1) * 27 ?

Yeah but fmj doesn't mean it put half of the powder with shorter casing.
