Intratec Tec-9. It was so popular that the government banned open bolt firearms, and companies just started making closed bolt designs.

NTA but it's still Kelgren
Interdynamic/intratec -> Grendel -> kel tec

PS if you for some reason ever meet George bringing up either intratec or grendel or both royally pisses him off.
It's both funny and completely understandable.
It's been cool seeing him revisit old Grendel guns lately in his designs

The actual, real world answer and not shit from movies and TV is whatever cheap piece of garbage they could get their hands on. There were TONS of chink Tokarevs being seized from gangbangers back in the early 90s where I lived. The other thing that was popular for a while was taking an SKS and hacking most of the stock off.

All open bolt designs were bought to some degree, but the tec 9 was the cheapest, so it became the most widely used by criminals.

>>64141746
Because we are talking about the 90s. Glock didn't become popular among hood rats until the Glock switch was common, and while the Glock switch was invented in 1987, the first documented case of it being used was in 2002. The Hi-Point in your pic was more popular than the Glock before the switches came about.

Legend and publicity mostly. This may come as a shock to some I know but there wasn't exactly a lot of nuanced critique in the public beyond specific areas (mostly huntin and enforcement jerking) so "This gun shoots a lot of fucking bullets" is pretty much as far as it got, come to 92,93 it gets pegged as a great scary gun to poster child for 94's ban and here we are. It's clear from the way things went for machine pistols that it never really convinced anyone much beyond surface level interest.
Still, great film prop gun for sure.

This. Niggers weren't running around with fucking SMGs or high end pistols. It was cheap pistols and cheap shotguns. Glocks barely even made the Top 10 list in the mid 90s. Anything else is pure fantasy.

Depends on which city you're talking about, the wealth of the gang, the ethnicity of the gang and most importantly what era of the 90s because early 90s is going to be different than late 90s.

I think it would be fair to say that .38 special snub nose revolvers (particularly the S&W Model 36), 12 gauge sawed-off shotguns, Browning Hi-Powers and Colt 1911s were ubiquitous for the whole decade.

In the early 90s you might see the Beretta 92 or Glock 17 but neither of them would be common. Later on you'd see more modern handguns like the Smith & Wesson 5906 and Glock 19 work their way in, but I think the Model 36 takes precedence over all of these.

If they were rich or well connected enough, they might have TEC-9s, MAC-10s, MAC-11s, an Uzi or even Norinco AKs. The average gang member likely never touched one of these, though. Even if they had heard about them and idolized them.
