The bank they robbed is the bank I use. It’s still there. I may have even eaten at the Taco Bell a block away, which IIRC was featured in the shootout. I went to the same high school as Emil Mătăsăreanu, and my parents also immigrated and settled into the very same town as his folks. I also love guns and used to lift. Though I’ve never robbed a bank or shot it out with the cops.

Muscle relaxants have no real value as a PED other than making you a little more calm at best, or drowsy at worst. It's as performance enhancing as having a beer before the robbery to get loose.

They were criminals who were zonked out on muscle relaxants and God knows what else. They had a viable plan for the initial robberies which worked well enough, but on the North Hollywood raid they got unlucky because they were spotted going in by a patrol officer and greedy when they couldn't get enough money from the cashiers. It took too long, and they had basically no time from the beginning since the alarm went out as they went in.

After that, it didn't matter how much firepower they had. Every cop in LA was outside like a swarm of angry bees. They did breech the immediate perimeter, but they couldn't realistically get far from that point anyway.

Why are all public images of two guys all about bodybuilding for years from many years earlier before they did bodybuilding as baby faced teenagers?

The only current image is of the guy dying on the ground with his legs full of holes from the swat team. After he was running around in a ski mask with goggles (no air flow) wearing extensive body armor carrying heavy weapons, ammo, and money bags, in the socal sun with adrenaline dumps much earlier expired and was worn down.
You can still see he has a roided out looking excess hgh face and thinned out receding hair and was probably ripped. But all photos are from many years earlier like pre bodybuilding days.
It gives a distorted view of who they were dealing with.

You are thinking that is plenty for a normal lifetime, yeah but the wives don't spend normaly if they have abnormal quantities of money.

>>64140415
Are you kidding body builders are ultra vain, with so much of life about physique they have tons of photos of themselves. Law enforcement certainly had many of them after raiding their residences.

For some reason law enforcement CHOSE to only show their teenager pictures from many years prior.
Case in point those mannequins look like the size of normal adults and are much smaller than the real deal based on bank images.
These were roided out hulks and the media and police fails to portray that focusing only on their equipment.

They seriously need to replace the whole shootout exhibit. Most of the guns are in a dark case and are hard to photograph clearly because the case lights don't work half the time. The vehicles used in the shootout are just outside under a metal roof rusting away, and random fags have caved in the bullet-riddled windshield on the getaway car. Some have even sat inside it for youtube videos. Not to mention the mannequins are falling apart due to the weight of the guns and body armor weighing them down. One of them has had a dislocated arm that just hangs down to the floor, and it's been like that for years.

I'm having a hard time finding documents on Emil, but the coroner's 402 file for Larry lists "black Levi's 560 Waist 36" Inside Leg 32 " pants". Apparently, he chose them due to the wide thigh-cut, which allowed him to wear his homemade thigh armor underneath them.

On July 20, 1993, Phillips and Mătăsăreanu robbed an armored car outside a branch of FirstBank in Littleton, Colorado.[15]

Three months later, on October 23, they were initially pulled over by Glendale police when Mătăsăreanu was speeding in a red 1993 Pontiac Firebird.[9] After the traffic stop, Mătăsăreanu lied to the police officer about who owned the vehicle.[16] The subsequent search of their vehicle—after Phillips surrendered with a concealed weapon—found two semi-automatic rifles (a Norinco MAK90 rifle and a Polytech AKS underfolding rifle) two handguns (one Springfield Armory .45 pistol and one Colt .45 pistol), more than 1,600 rounds of 7.62×39mm rifle ammunition, 1,200 rounds of hollow point 9×19mm Parabellum and .45 ACP handgun hollow point ammunition, radio scanners, six smoke bombs, improvised explosive devices, body armor vests, wigs, a stopwatch, a gas mask, and three different California license plates.[17][9][18] Initially charged with conspiracy to commit robbery,[19] due to plea bargaining, it was downgraded to a misdemeanor. Both served 100 days in jail and were placed on three years of probation.[20] After their release, most of their seized property was returned to them, except for the confiscated firearms and explosives.[20][21]

On June 14, 1995, Phillips and Mătăsăreanu ambushed a Brink's armored car in Winnetka, Los Angeles, killing one guard, Herman Cook, and seriously wounding another.[22] In May 1996, they robbed two branches of Bank of America in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles, stealing approximately US$1.5 million.[21][23] The pair were dubbed the "High Incident Bandits" by investigators due to the weaponry they had used in three robberies prior to their attempt in North Hollywood.[5]

The average bank location was getting hit 20 times per year on average.

You have to remember this was a wealthy advanced mostly white California before widespread decline. With extensive experience treating compton and watts crips and bloods that were shot, and rising latino gangs. LA the highest murder capitol of the USA during the highest murder rate ever. All concentrated in the ghetto.
1993 was the highest murder rate in US history and similar in surrounding years, mostly blacks, and robberies and theft were common. Crack cocaine was dominant. People openly wheeling stolen ACs, atms, and other random stuff down the street on a dolly was an everyday occurance in crackhead neighborhoods.
Gangs wore matching colors, bandanas and essentialy uniforms openly often walking down the streets in groups of 5-20.
Graffiti was so bad in many areas it was not just every wall, but the sidewalks and curbs too.

Hospitals in the area had more experience treating people shot with guns than in literal warzones.
With high budgets, a great economy, limited illegals, the healthcare system wasn't drained and it was probably the best time and place in US history to show up with gunshot wounds and have a good outcome.

Also they clearly were just suppressing.
One staying behind after already receiving multiple penetrating gunshots through their armor may have been an intentional self sacrifice since it was clear both were not getting away with so many cops. "Just go bro, I'm done for anyways."

There’s no way out for them once the cops swarm. They have an advantage over the cops in a gunfight, but if they somehow manage to get away, well, the helicopters were already circling the area and they’d never get away from those.

Yeah it was gonna happen no matter what. Probably a consequence of improving weapons technology. The cops would eventually learn the hard way through some shootout or whatever that they need to get with the program and upgrade their gear. Similar thing happened in Miami and IIRC that was the catalyst for switching from revolvers to self loading pistols.
