Instead of put SHORT grenade tube slung under rifle barrel, with tall sights on top of barrel, put FULL LENGTH tube on top of rifle barrel, and have removable tube fit into rings which would also carry iron sights on top. When not using rifle with tube, I guess you could find uses for a couple 45mm rings, like towel, gloves, sun-glasses or cig pack holders.

Add a few lines of code to the optic's software (or just strap a smart phone to handguard) and turn it into mortar.

For AR, just make a new gas block that goes off to the side instead of on top.

Probably tweek various low-med-hi vel 40mm grenades to make full use of about 24" tube but with reasonable recoil.

WTF not?

Looks like that would work fine also with an optic, and the full length tube would be a nice check rest.

IIRC Germans made some Infantry Weapon Of The Future which was a big caliber with big clip and small rifle under, but I'm talking about mostly a normal rifle with (removable) single shot grenade launcher tube. I guess you could make the mounting rings optional.

The OICW concept has been tried by many countries, and always been shit.

thats because it gives up having a real rifle.

I'm just talking about relocating the optional grenade launcher to where it can be longer and how its mounting can do double duty as tall sights found on todays in-line full auto capable rifles.

shouldn't the military use 10gauge with an almost 20mm option?

I think you're on the right track, but the problem with rifle/grenade launcher combos is the insistence on the rifle part.

A good grenade launcher is a much more effective weapon than a rifle at 100-300m range, so the only reason to really have the rifle is so that the grenadier doesn't get caught with his pants down in an ambush or CQB, so what the grenadier actually needs is more like a PDW

Therefore I propose some small and light bullet hose in 9mm or 5.7 (pic rel) as an underbarrel attachment for a big and capable grenade launcher like a Milkor MGL or an M79 with an optical sight

why not get the best of both worlds and build a 20mm automatic rocket grenade launcher with option for belt- or box-feeding

Seems like he is telling the truth. I can see that being possible. Family history could cause that kind of trauma in teenagers. I believe it.

I'm not trying to create a whole new wonder-waffen conscept, just relocate a tweeked version of an M203 to where it can be longer and also address the problematic very tall sights above the barrel.

But mounting the tube over the barrel instead of in front of the grip, trigger and clip would open up the possibility of rocket exhaust pipe, extended enough extra past the end of the butt-stock.

Would an extra tube past the end of rifle butt affect handling of rifle? I guess. Could it be worth it to add RPG size rocket to the system in conjunction with computerized optic? Maybe.

Make the rocket nozzle extension able to also mount either on front of tube or on front of rifle's flash-hider for extra flash hiding.
