If the US could win peace as hard as it wins wars, the world would be approaching a utopia by now. Sadly, burgers have yet to understand that the biggest military dick in the world doesn't mean anything if you just swing it all willy nilly with no regard for consequences or plans for what comes after.

Sorry, but I am in fact a member of the tap water alliance. Sorry to break the news to you, but the US's reputation among its allies has become "good at breaking stuff, bad at fixing stuff". Blame the GWOT and its consequences for that.

Besides, if I was a thirdie, I'd be reeing about how the US military is woke and weak and that China is going to be very implessive or some trash. The big thirdie tells are being incapable of a nuanced understanding and being obsessed with face - everything must be completely good, or completely bad, and everything the thirdie likes must be defended at all costs. Calling the US's military fucking objectively amazing while acknowledging that the US struggles to leverage that military is the exact opposite of a thirdie take.

Texas “seceding” isn’t a thing that can happen. The state government can say they secede, but they don’t have any power to enforce that. Even if, for some reason, every armed group in Texas decided to secede, it wouldn’t make a difference.
The most you would see is a bunch of retard “militia”fags standing on some freeways on the state border trying to prevent people from coming in. They’d get cleared out pretty quickly. Then, at most, you’d get some terrorist attacks.

Any modern civil war in the US ends up more like the balkans or northern Ireland than anything that happened hundreds of years ago.

The problem that the US had in Afghanistan is that America's political leaders stupidly assumed that thirdies, fundamentally, have the same priorities as Westerners, that thirdies won't cut off their own nose to spite their face every single time.
>We bombed Germany to shit, literally nuked Japan, and they still became functional members of the global economy after we helped them rebuild.
They thought the same thing would work with middle-eastern muslims. It didn't. It's the same reason why Putin not only pissed everyone off by invading Ukraine when he already had the EU eating out the palm of his hand, but also why average Russians seem fine with going along with it instead of, say, investing in infrastructure. The more you peel away the assumption that all peoples and cultures are fundamentally equal, and that we all value safety and cooperation, the more "fair" the world feels when it comes to economics and development. Thirdies choose to be poor, violent shitholes.
This is why trying to write up a "What if Afghanistan, but Texas?" scenario is a silly hypothetical. Texans are American. They are Western. They aren't going to choose "throw the infidel off a building allahuh ackbar" over running water.

So your critique is that on a regulatory basis they failed to pass rules to prepare the grid for a black swan event that could cost ~20B and add $20 pm to each persons energy bill in perpetuity and this is the governors fault.

It's not that they didn't prepare the grid specifically for a polar vortex, it's that the grid was below average in general and by all reports didn't even have basic winterizing. Simple regular upgrades that aren't bottom of the barrel would have done a lot, and would still be doing a lot, to mitigate the effects of extreme weather on the grid. A regulatory body should be ensuring these things happen for pure public safety reasons.

Yes. We didn't winterize because its FUCKING TEXAS. When developing policy you look at trends not exceptions. For 90% of the state it rarely drops below freezing during the winter so why the fuck would you spend vast amounts of money (costs get pushed onto consumers) to prepare your grid for -2 degree weather when the last time that happened in 1870?

Honestly North Texas would be absolute aids for any sort of military fighting. The suburban sprawl is insane here, dfw isn't so much two separate cities as it is one mega suburb(8 million plus people) with urban areas and some dead spots here and there. Practically every neighborhood is entirely fenced, stone ones at the perimeter and wood or stone for individual yards so people have more privacy with the pervasive mild overcrowding. Taking it would necessitate mass warcrimes and would still be an absolute blood bath with any sort of semi competent force wanting to hold it. I honestly don't think it could be done short of a mass firebombing campaign. Dense enough that you'd be taking fire from every fucking angle but too spread out to just grozny the place or otherwise level it through concentrated fire.

>Northern interstate going to Amarillo doesn't connect to the rest of the system
>El Paso is called "the pass" for a reason
>Single other semi viable option goes through Houston
>Both are easily made unusable
>DFW alone has 3 interstates connecting from out of state using the area as a connecting point which then connects to every other population center
Not taking DFW means not taking most of the state, not pacifying the surrounding area means constant attack on your main supply corridor. A competent defense would probably be centered around turning that place into a meat grinder, making El Paso into no paso, and turning the interstate through Houston in to gravel.
