The show is great, it transposes both videogame mechanics and design characteristics into movie language very effectively. It makes those who enjoyed the franchise say "I see what they did there" while not impeding anyone else's experience. The writing too mimics pretty well the antics you can stumble upon in the OG wasteland, and as such respects the original material, while also expanding on it in a meaningful positive way. Actors are okay, but Goggins is great, as usual. A shame they killed off Michael Emerson's character right away, not that he was important per se, but I like the actor. To me the show, unlike many other adaptations, feels like those who made it did know and love the base material.

This place IRL still confuses me. I moved to California for a temporary work assignment and took the opportunity to take a road trip to see the real inspirations for New Vegas (pic related is one of the casinos in Primm). In real life the NCR outpost is a California Highway Patrol checkpoint which will stop vehicles entering and exiting the state to search for contraband. Friend of mine got caught up in 3 hours of traffic in early July a few years ago because CHP was stopping every vehicle to catch Californians who bought fireworks in Nevada that are illegal to buy in CA. Funny to think that California has stricter border controls on other US states than with Mexico.
