What can you tell me about the 92 GTS? I'm considering a beretta but I don't want to spend 92X money and so far people say this is a direct competitor to the glock.

It's still a beretta so it's big and beefy and a totally different action. The main difference from the classic 92 is the different grip profile and the frame mounted decocker, which most consider to be better. If you can get a good price, it's a gun you'll be able to use for the rest of your life easily.

Maybe invest in an extra locking block down the road depending on how much OP uses it

Even that seems expensive. At one point people were getting them with a 100 off rebate for like 5 or 600 I think, and I just got mine last year for 7 I think.

Is there any X gun that is better than a Xi besides the expensive competition line? I guess if you hate SAO, but it was a bonus for me. And Slide safeties are trash .

The frame lever versions are stupid. The slide safety is better, the frame lever complicates disassembly and is slightly too high and doesn’t match the frame well. Its location was decided by the hammer pin instead of an ergonomics.

Decocker only slide lever is the perfect configuration, frame levers is mental illness

I would take slide safety over a frame decocker or lever. The slide safety is to never be used except for administrative tasks like unholstering and storage, pretty sure the manual says to carry safety off.

Slide safety puts it up and out of the way of the shooter’s hand, I find the lever position chosen for the 92XP, 92Xi, and the 92 Gigantic Turbo Stupid. If decocker only then it’s never to be used except for decocking, there is no tactical need to decock from a shooting grip. Which I’m still able to decock using the slide levers from a shooting grip since I don’t have baby hands

You can definitely still reach it and flick it off easily, at least I can on my gun. It's just not an intuitive part of presenting the gun like it is on a 1911. I leave it off on a 92 anyway but I have an 85 with a frame safety that I do use and that also isn't intuitive like a 1911 so idk whether it would be any better on a frame mounted 92.

Patrician takes, my bro. I tried the frame mounted safeties on the 92 platform once and have steered clear of them since. It always ends up digging into my fingers somehow, whereas the slide mounted safety is once activated and then out of the way...

15k-20k of 9mm is a lot more expensive than a $38 drop in part that literally slides in without tools.

Recently handled a frame safety model at a LGS. [/thereain'tspoilersonk] I liked it, but [/spoiler] it does seem that a slight profile change in the safety would make it better and rounding the back or adding thickness might make it look less cheap and IIRC get rid of some of the sharpness of the edge of that safety.

I think it’s because of my technique but the lever shape sucks and I didn’t want to buy the 150 dollar XL lever to see if that’s better

I'm definitely going to get an old Cheetah first (and a threaded barrel if possible, but I worry about sight height) but a frame safety (not decocker) vertec threaded barrel XI is on my list. I already have a nice pre-US made 92 with a gen 3 locking block I like a lot FWIW. Cheetah is really only on my list because my section of handguns I have at my selection for carry is pretty much:
>Beretta 92FS
>Beretta 21A
>other guns no one who isn't insane would carry for protection (or which need work to ever trust)
You can tell I'm definitely into rifles first and handguns second lol. Something in-between in size would be nice, followed by a 92 (XI) I can silence and do what I want with.
>technique
Maybe it's because my technique/grip is still somewhat moldable from shooting handguns so much less than rifles that it doesn't seem to bother me unless the design is egregiously bad (say if it were way too far back). Then again I like a wide range of old 22s (rifles) so my technique/grip on rifles is something I also keep pretty malleable and constantly changing gun to gun; I adapt pretty quick and that might somewhat spill over for handguns.
With handguns, though, my one sticking point is that I like my frame safety for some reason, and it greatly influences what I buy. Not sure why.
>$150 XL lever
I'd have to feel that one again at the store to know for sure but the shape of the safety was a little off from my ideal shape but not enough to really make me hate it. At worst I'd either get one of those or customize a safety lever but if it works it works. I think the old Cheetah is the best frame safety of all Berettas. Got to play with a new 80x at a store and didn't like the shape. With the larger grip and safety I think I'd like the old 80 series guns best but I've yet to run into one.

The old ones are drying up quick, I've had 2 85s. First one was an fs that was lost to the cops, when I went to replace it it took me 2 years to find one and all I could find was an f. The 84fs are a bit more common and the 84bbs are more common than that, I think classic has the bbs for around 400 right now, but I don't really like the round trigger guard. Great guns though.

I forget which model I was looking for but I found a couple places with BB/F/FSs at various prices (within about plus or minus $100 of each other). Right now I won't be able to buy it so I'm hoping no real expenses come up over the next couple weeks and I get to save some cash towards that and several other things. I had a whole page of notes from when I last researched them which includes the model I decided on; I'll have to find that again so I can get ready to buy one when the time comes. Fullsize frame safety 92 is something I'm looking at way in the future, at least 8-12 months away. I don't have a 9mm silencer, the NFA tax is going to go to $0 next year, and I have other guns I'm really leaning towards buying some time around the middle of this coming hunting season, probably late Fall. Cheetah will probably be next in line when the cash is available followed by some stuff for hunting. This year, at least since Spring, seems to be going quick, though. Just saw a video on youtube that had a "2 months ago" date. Feels like it was only last week, maybe a month ago max.
>not liking the round trigger guard
I think that might've been one of the lines in my notes too, lol.

Nothing a 2011 doesn't do, possibly with more features for the price (e.g. a Platypus taking Glock mags). Beretta PX4 Storm will be half the price, lighter, with less recoil and more carry-able (if you don't mind less ubiquitous mags than the 92), and has passed giga round count stress tests.

Great optic and is just as usable as the SRO, to me they have about the same window size, not super sure it's worth the price but if it's durability is true than if you're carrying the gun it's worth not having to worry about the SRO shitting itself. The battery it comes with dies really fast, but the replacement I put in is lasting like it should. Maybe they leave them on for a long ass time on full brightness or some shit. Or it's a shitty battery.

>inb4 window size autist
the RMR wastes 1/3 of the window space with it's stupid high deck and low mounted window, the RMR HD has the same window size as the original RMR but they moved it up above the deck so effectively it's significantly more usable than the original RMR.

I like it 10x better than the old one. It seems slimmer and I get a better grip/wrap with my fingers than even a 1911. The old ones I could do fine but always felt a little too big.

Did you want the double stack or single stack? I like the single stack 85s alot better, the double stack 84s are stupid fat for what they are, like noticably wider than a 92. But the 84s are a lot easier to find than 85s.

I like the look of the non-vertec 92 more but I think the vertec 92 feels better. Ironically I prefer the rounded non-vertec grip in both look and feel when it comes to the Cheetah. Weird.

Double stack. If that's too fat in some situations then oh well it's better than what I have currently (not to mention we're going into fall anyways so it'll be fine until spring).

Yeah, it's not fat as in you'd have to worry about it printing or whatever but I just find they don't handle as well for me as the 85. Oh and when I said fatter than a 92 I was comparing it to my vertec frame 92x, should have mentioned that. I can get my fingers pretty much all the way around the vertec 92x and 85, with an 84 or the browning bda (pretty much the same as an 84) it's mostly just a little more than the the first knuckle forward on the inside of the grip. I have pretty average size hands, If you have a big hand it'll matter less or even be better thicker I imagine. If at all possible handle both to see what you like because I was going to get a double stack until I found a good deal on the single and bought it, then wound up handling an 84 and a bda later on and was very glad I wound up with the single stack.
Anonymous No.64171265
I was watching a jeff gurwitch video where he mentioned SF guys were carrying the beretta in double action nearly always, safety off, they used the decocker and then flipped it back to "fire" before reholstering. The gun does not actually need a safety, the heavy 11lb double action pull is the safety.

I feel like the GTS was created out of this doctrinal use of the 92 but also the G series slide decocker does the same thing arguably better and gives you somewhere to grasp onto to rack it. Biggest thing I'd be worried about with a GTS is the decocker just getting in the way of your firing thumb, like many people here have said.

More than anything unless you specifically need adjustable irons I would just stay away from models that have the dovetailed front sight posts, they just keep having problems backing out and there's no solution, it's a tiny area of the slide that takes a lot of vibration. The fixed front sights are not good but at least they don't fall out
