>go to range too often (2x week)
>groups start getting worse
>start going less often (2x month)
>groups get better

does this happen to you? i guess if I go too often it's not special enough of an occasion so I get sloppy with my technique

too often and you're just dumping rounds for no reason. you should have a plan when you go shooting or else you really do just brainlessly throw bullets downrange without improving.

I kind of feel this way. Maybe I'm projecting (probably), but the more seriously I'm taking something, the more liable I am to get anxious about doing well that I end up fucking up.
Anonymous No.64159253
You're probably just getting complacent and shoot faster than you actually should. Getting sloppy with your grip and sight picture etc.

The more you do something the more skill you use up which over time depletes it and makes you worse. This is why I never practice. I'm saving up all my skill so that way in a life or death situation I can use all my skill at once to get the perfect shot off

I agree, I've measured it and my hit rate when shooting clays drops between 10-15% when going weekly versus biweekly. There's a very real risk in reinforcing bad habits or just lowering your standards since you're just gonna be out there next weekend. That has little to do with shooting frequency and more to do with mentality

Yeah it's just mental really. My platoon was running a range for like 3 months for the entire corps and they had us shoot every day. I always did my best at the zero range but when we had the popup targets I just stopped caring and just sent rounds down range because it felt more like a chore than fun after a month. Sure I hit most of them but shooting for the sake of shooting gets boring

I honestly enjoyed instructing other people how to shoot and walk them on to where the next targets would pop up than shooting myself.

deez

I've had that happen with other exercises. Usually a sign of slacking and not fully engaging in task. Most often it's due to general exhaustion and assumption repetition still works even at lower quality. But that translates to exhaustion in next exercise, picking up wrong reflexes etc.

Other causes might include:
* Getting bored - need to mix it up, up the difficulty, add fun, like contest with buddy, speed etc.
* Slow physical recovery - e.g. you're unable to stand straight for hour without weeks rest. Train, supplement.
* Mental refractory time - to absorb NEW knowledge subconsciously you can't dwell on it, you need to clear your mind with something else. Can't just sit on k for entire evenings between exercises.
* Schedule problems - e.g. that other time is busier in range, or that day is longer for you so you're distracted or tired.

Lots of shooting and ammo autism at work...
In my personal life, I kill an entire day at the shooting range every other Saturday. I try to make sure everything works and no one gets killed or hurt. I spend most of the day drinking coffee, reading a book in the office, or deflecting retarded questions like "DO YOU HAVE A DESERT EAGLE?"

I'm satisfied that with any firearm I'm able to hit a man sized target in the vital zones, with10rounds to the spread of the (female) palm.At any reasonable distance (up to 300m).

I'm at the point where I don't give a fuck about groupings.

My greatest satisfaction comes from taking some obscure ammo to the shooting range that I reloaded in the evening drunk and depressed (.577, 45-70, .40-60...) and it doesn't kill me, it doesn't destroy the firearm, and it eventually hits the target.

It might be this, genuinely didn't think that I'd ever "get bored" of shooting but shooting the gun I've owned for 4 years already in an indoor range at paper yeah it gets kinda boring.

Probably this too, I went to shoot after a day's work
