My grandfather has passed suddenly and I'm barely keeping myself from punching anything until my hands break.
I put this 1893 turk mauser .45 acp conversion together today.
Post your projects please, I need to focus on something or I'm going to crash out, 3 stents with a 90% blockage
shouldn't have been an issue in 2025.

I'm working on a semi auto suomi from a kit and my friend was helping me with it, but he left the receiver in his workshed and it happened to get broken into, and whoever broke into it stole the incomplete receiver
its strange though because it was just a metal tube with some threading on the end and some incomplete grind markings, so i have no idea why they grabbed that instead of one of the many expensive power tools laying around
i'm pretty mad about it though because that tube cost me $210 in all

Maybe calling it barely better than nothing isn't quite fair, any milling machine is a significant upgrade over no mill, but you really have to take light cuts with something like this. Wish I had more room when I bought it, would have gone with something bigger.

Still trying to work up the courage to try and throw the new spring in. I think you might need to punch out a pin or two to do that, though, which is fun on a gun that hasn't been apart since it was made in 1960/1970-something. I believe the trigger group is matching to the rifle, too, so I have to be careful. Not to mention the retarded prices SKS trigger groups were fetching last I checked should I really fuck up.

All I have left is this pic of the gunk that came out of that SKS. I have a project gun waiting to be shipped so no pics yet.

I'm going to finish welding the bit of bent steel to unslant my M77 receiver tomorrow night. I hope this thread survives until then.

If you live in Ohio I have an mosin receiver I was going to use for a 450 marlin conversion. Can't find a gunsmith to do the work despite offering a stupid amount of money to some.. barrel was removed previously by a gunsmith who had no idea what he was doing. So the barrel shank is mangled to fuck due to him using a pipe wrench to take it off....
Then he put the barrel back on before he closed the shop...

Gotta love that. Hoping my project gun have the same issues crop up; literally ream the chamber and maybe thread. Job's been done on countless thousands of this rifle so it doesn't take unobtanium ammo anymore (yes I have a decent unmolested example too but this one is literal bottom of the barrel of the bottom of the barrel).

From a anon who has lost many family members from causes both natural and sudden you need to remember the good memories and the fact that he loved you, and wouldn't want you to hurt yourself because of him. Grieve, but don't do something you'll regret.

Well you can definitely tell where the welded part is. I guess I can only improve from here. For now though, I'm going to clean up the stock a bit and figure out how to drill a straight hole through the length of it without cracking it.

from OP, thank you all I'll admit i've had a few vodka fueled crashouts in this thread but I thank you all for your sympathy, I haven't felt myself being the same since I accepted he was gone, and It feels like a light in my eyes was permanently extinguished, every thing feels.. Wrong.
maybe I'll try to reweld that vz-61 properly tomorrow, rewelding an ak-47 out of bits and pieces of torch cut milled polish AKs was far easier, should have known the Czechs would be precise.
I'm not doing well but I'm still moving, I'm disgusted by the ways my so called family are handling the estate as well.

Wait until you see a 4th generation family farm sold off so your POS great aunt can spend the rest of her life on cruises and credit cards. Yeah there is a reason my GA had to flee from my state.

my great uncle Bill (the eldest son) pulled the trigger on selling the family farm "between the three living brothers at the time". 80 acres because "It wouldn't be fair for his kids because of land taxes"
the ancestral land, swamp, field and woodland their great grandfathers came from poland to farm and sold it for a paltry 200k and 20 year hunting rights, sure the current farmers are good people and love the original homestead, apple trees, guest shack and all the falling down outbuildings and all, but I'm starting to hate that colorblind architect bastard, because to me, he was complicit to all of this. he was the firstborn and supposed to be a leader, to be an example, and all he was was a destroyer

You mean from one side of the receiver to the other? Put a wood spacer inside the receiver, so you're drilling metal > wood > metal.

NTA but I've had far too much death in family/friends and I feel that. Honestly not sure if it ever gets better. And everything is...best description I can say is changing. It sucks.
>I'm not doing well but I'm still moving, I'm disgusted by the ways my so called family are handling the estate as well.
I won't get into specifics but I just witnessed that same god damn thing. Person dies; they loved (thing) and won't get rid of it even though they haven't used it in 15-20 years. Reminded them of better times. Family all says they love (thing) and it reminds them of (insert parent(s)). Yet the time comes when they're both gone, I begin to wonder if it's poor taste to ask what they're doing with (thing) because it would actually be useful to me, and being very close by, would be very easy for me to pay them a couple of bucks for it (or god forbid give me it for all the help). Then the family who said they loved (thing) comes and starts cleaning out the house and wouldn't you know it, they hired someone to take (thing) away for a couple hundred bucks because it was "beyond saving" (repair cost ~$5-7k?) despite them all making north of $100k/yr as I heard it from their parents, despite them saying they'd have loved to get it up to their house as a reminder of their parents, all without asking me if I might know a thing or two about it or want to take a crack at making it work (as I desperately need something like that, especially for cheap). And they did that instead of saving it despite some of them inheriting large estates/sums from other family rather recently as I understand it. Being vague for whatever reason even though I know they don't read any part of this site but fuck does it piss me off.

>wipes
I'm hoping silencers with wipes become more common with $0 stamps. Kinda want to try one out on a 22, though IIRC they're not recommended with HP ammo, which is kinda lame but understandable. Have a feeling that it could easily be solved only having one wipe at the end and both slitting and punching a hole big enough to avoid the edges of the HP though. Less effective than a normal wipe, sure, but a slit and cut ~.10 or .15 rubber capped hole is more effective at holding back gas than a ~.25 cal metal/plastic hole, if just a little.

Best bet would be to clamp it in a vise and use a drill press. Next best would be to make a jig and drill using that.

That and I think it'd be cool for 22LR handguns at the very least. Or maybe carry 9mm; keep the dust and dirt out without having to tape over the endcap.
