tunneling or opening a completely new front by dragging another country into the war

Did tunneling machines even exist in 1914? It would probably have taken 4 years of digging by hand just to get across belgium

No, tunneling and mining the tunnels under the trenches was a regular tactic

Just slow

Remember WW1 lasted ONLY 4 years, it was over relatively fast and both sides were obssessed with ending it as quick as possible

invest heavily into making tanks that weren't laughably bad and didn't kill their own crew simply by them just operating it.

same way they gained ground in WW1
using artillery to suppress enemy machine guns, using your own light machine guns to advance and provide cover fire while the artillery is firing
and the having the machine guns pin the enemy machine guns while your troops advance to take their positions

These were my two first thoughts as well, but didn't they already try to artillery as hard as they could possibly artillery? Were there even the kinds of resources available to vastly scale barrel/shell production for any of the sides?
Tunneling is also going to be slow and dangerous, there's a whole art to counter-sapping, and if your enemy knows you're going to try, it's a lot easier for them to build defenses/listening posts and intercept your tunnels.

>but didn't they already try to artillery as hard as they could possibly artillery
and it was working
the deadlock of trench warfare was already being defeated by better coordination of artillery and infantry
