>Here we can see wheels doing just fucking fine.
that statement has nothing to do with tracks being better
thats like looking at your ford in the parking lot and saying wheels just work fine

as has been known since tracks were first invented, a track can spread its weight across the entire length of the track while a wheel can only do so on the portion tangential to the ground

only 8x8 designs come close to tracks in off-road performance, but they still lose out on total load capacity and traction

the humvee was so bad off road that they were replaced in cav units by the M1 abrams
the M1 abrams is literally a better scout than the humvee thanks to tracks

Anons will hate me for saying this but the MT-LB used in the role it was designed for (hauling logi or as a gun tractor) is probably one of the best vehicles in the world. It can get pretty much anywhere and it can be maintained by a paralytically drunk 18 y/o conscript with a wrench and a brick. Most likely the best armored vehicle to come out of Russia/USSR. Obviously, when its used as an APC its absolute trash.

Nobody would hate you for such a logical, straightforward statement anon; when people deride the MT-LB its the weird franken-conversions where some mobik slapped a 20mm AA cannon on it to create a not-quite-BMP

cavalry troop setup was originally composed of humvees and bradleys
the humvee was seen as useless in this role because its wheels suck ass off-road, ie. where cavalry will usually be used, and its poor armor (wheels cant carry much) meant that it couldnt protect itself in the inevitable case it got stuck
so modern cavalry troop setup is now bradleys and M1 abrams

the humvee is literally less mobile than the M1 abrams in combat situations
the humvee mostly stays in rear-ech roles, where it can choose to stay on roads most of the time or at least avoid the worst terrain, but they absolutely cannot go where tracks go and why tracks are still preferred for anything that will see combat

Except the MTLB, poor fucker went practically extinct as it seemed that it was a favorite to frankenstein early war. If they still had MTLB's their combat situation may at least be considered tenable instead of shit.

Unironically they would've been better off making T-62 and 72 kangaroos... They likely still have plenty of servicable hulls, most of the sophisticated shit is in the turret, not to mention a majority of the explosive shit aswell. If the turret flies off as easy as it seems, it should be no real challenge to remove the turrets altogether.
