could trebuchets be modernized with current composite materials, ballistic computers, integration with targeting drones?

Bruh it can launch drones.

They don't have a lot of energy to work with compared to gunpowder or rocket fuel. Just the potential energy of the counterweight.
Flywheels are a better method of storing mechanical energy.

...So a shitty version of mortars? Why the Trebuchets?

Because I desire to return to simpler times.

A gun is absolutely simpler than a trebuchet. An explosion launches a thing. Thats it. If they had the metallurgy and chemistry to make them, cannons would have predated catapults in every culture.

no it fucking isn't
don't assume that
>old == cheap
mortars are just tubes. rocket launchers are just tubes. a trebuchet is a finely-tuned machine that requires a lot of assistant machinery or manpower to operate

I mean yes, potentially... but your range is still going to be under half a kilometre, and its still going to be a massive easy target that cannot be moved and its still going to need an expert engineer and team to construct and operate.
Mortars are cheaper, smaller, and easier to make and use.

Not cheaper than a mortar.

The medieval age merely appears simple when it was one of the most complex times socially, politically, and economically.

Proabably works great in anti-alphabet events like Waco. Hurling flaming garbage or animal excrement or other chemical toxic shit. Preferably, after you decided medication should not be ingested and you aim for tabloid sensationalism kinda like the dozer schizo.

Dynamite guns, which are pneumatic and difficult to detect, may have a chance of making a comeback in the age of drones. There are many problems with making huge compressors portable, though.

Interesting concept, but *doubt* on how practical it would be on a battlefield. Far too much bulk vs. range for the payload, no matter the modern materials. I suppose if you were in an A-Team situation it might be workable as a surprise improvisation for one or two quick shots, if you already know how to build one with whatever modern materials were on hand. Would be fun for the backyard or pumpkin toss competition. I know some autist built one a few years back that he could lob cars with a good distance. Pretty sure it was over 100 yards, iirc. Under some bizarre use case that could be effective, and I think pumpkin toss events get out at the half mile or more range for smaller payloads.

Even optimized flywheel trebuchets are less effective than black powder mortars that also cost less.

What is the advantage you're hoping to gain by using a trebuchet?

IRC that was after Hezbollah started firing rockets into Northern Israel which caused a shitload of wild fires, so the jews started burning the forests in Lebanon along the border in retaliation.
This was right before Israel buckbroke Hezbollah.

Hezbollah were using brush as cover to infiltrate the northern border and set up concealed emplacements, someone in the IDF improvised a way to clear it.

I thought the idea that the Jews aren't endemic to Judea and the fact the ex-British colony is was a rightoid thing.
