Why are there no 9mm suppressors longer than 9 inches?
You dont have to have a phd in fluid dynamics to know its easier for a massive suppressor to be quiet than it is for a small suppressor. Why dont any suppressor manufacturers make 12” long 2” wide suppressors for those who really want hollywood quiet? Like yeah theres diminishing returns but i think it would be really fun to have a suppressor that made subs sound like a paintball gun

Because very few people would want it and you'd be facing tighter tolerance on the bore alignment and possible slop in trilug and other DQ mounts. You can buy a couple Q erectors if you care that much

by your logic it should be silent, tell us how it goes

The MOB is as quiet but much lighter and HUB, but yeah, the phoenix is the peak of performance before you're just surrendering to the action noise
Cool fucking can anon, and nice koch

If in had to venture a guess, it’s diminishing returns in decibel reduction vs length/weight added. If you’re using an 12” can on a PCC, you have something about as long as an 18” AR so it begs the question of β€œif I’m gonna carry this fuckhuge front-heavy gun, why not something more potent?”

and also that beyond a certain point, the noise of the action will overtake the report from the muzzle. This raises a question: is it possible to quiet the action of a gun, without switching to a manual action?
Anonymous No.64171510 >>64171648
And btw OP, you can get a giant 9mm can from rex silentium. They offer bespoke silencers with any numbers of baffles you want. IIRC the diameter is 1.7”. I’d link it here but the site seems to be down.

SA meaning semi auto? Semi and full auto actions are the same thing. The volume should be the same.

Here’s a video where some guys measure the decibels of various gun actions cycling (among other things).

try a closed bolt gun with subsonics and put a squirt of oil e.g wd40 n the can (NOT the barrel) The down side is after you get it hot after ten or so it will smoke and you have to practise zeroing it as you would a cold bore which takes patience and method and repeatability like clearing the cana nd baffles each time and logging the first shot on each session and the following five on paced firing interbal . if you want to see just how quiet you can get, use a good simple foot long spring and baffle silencer. This is peak. Its a sepcialised force multiplier and has little purpuse for anything else other than hunting/poaching. I've got it fown to the click of the firing pin being the most you hear from the rear and very clean 1MOA out to 200M and usable 4MOA out to 300M (due to dubsonics higher arc)

Scope is an old jap 10-40x50 with excellent repeatability 1/8 MOA turrets with a nice solid click that I sent to a custom shop for cleaning and purging, lets you see the bullet holes clearly at 100M to get a good zero without having to switch to a spotting scope. If you put some jam on your target you can practise hitting flies at 100M

Samefag, tuned teh trigger with some sleeves and springs for a nice break and no slop, all steel mag well and torgue measured reciever bolts, the unbedded portion of the front of the stock leaves the barrel free floating from then on. The wierd thing on the barrel just in fornt of the stock is a vibration damper on the major barrel node. The silencer also helps dampen the barrel on the heavy thing on the end of a bendy stick principle

Samefag, silver is a versapod which allows you to eliminate cant and is detachable with good lockup when you lean into it.and give s you good practical usable adjustable height and good skids with a spike for use on ground with long grass or foliage. The light barrels makes it still good off hand and the bipod then helps to act as a stabiliser because you ned the help when shooting offhand on high magnification

Diminishing returns. The entire premise of a suppressor is breaking up turbulent flow (loud bang) into more laminar flow (quiet huff), baffles use these principles to break up the chaotic gas flow into ripples in the air. Once these gasses reach a specific distance through the suppressor, decibel range doesn't go down at all because the "ripples" are just rebounding and creating their own chaotic and turbulent effects. You'll also eventually affect point of impact and velocity, risking baffle strike.

If you want a good example of this, look at Garand Thumb's video where they combine something like 100 baffles.

Adding to this, even with a super optimal baffle angle and some kind of advanced suppression techniques like metal foam and channels for blowback, you max out at 7-9 baffles angled approximately 23.1Β°.

Nobody needs a silencer over 4". In fact 4" is quite large. Well above average I would say.
