Well, well, well, anyone remember the total shit show that last thread was, when I complained about my $100 Forward Controls Design RMR Plate? That I should never expect an American product to work out of the box? That I should just use a hammer bro and file down the plate?

Hm, ordered this Chinese DPP plate made out of titanium for $40 dollars on Ali Express. Amazingly no fitting was required. It’s exactly made to spec, there isn’t any gap between the plate and the frame. No hammering, filing or other work required. Just works oob.

It’s the perfect match, just like WMAF.

What bothers me most is that this has also been my general experience. I work with heavy machinery, and we source a lot of milled spare parts from China. These parts are far superior to what we can obtain from American companies, and often we can’t even get the quantities we need domestically. It shouldn’t be that difficult to mill a part to spec or produce components at scale, but somehow we’ve become unable to do so economically. It’s still possible, but far too expensive. Tariffs won’t change this, we continue to order exclusively from Chinese suppliers and just end up paying the additional taxes. In the end, the customers have to cover the cost. The Chinese are using the same milling, sewing, tooling or any other machines that western manufacturers use. You will find all the German or Japanese mills in Chinese plants, DMG Mori, Mazak, Hermle, Liechti, it really doesn’t matter. These high quality machines produce high quality parts. China has shitloads of them and their education system hasn’t been wrecked, meaning there are still skilled workers. I wonder how long they can keep up the low prices though.
