The Psychic Menace
Ok, here's the scenario:
Psychers are real. They are people with psychic powers to do various things: lesser psychers are capable of having unnatural luck, as if they could see what the next cards/coin-toss/dice-roll was going to be. Some of them just seem to be in the right place in the right time to become influential people with just a few words.
More powerful psychers can literally read minds, they can tell what you are thinking at the moment. They can use that against you, or for their own benefit. They are they ones that always get the good job. Maybe they can even slilghtly affet your mind? Just plant in an idea "I should do what they say, that's a good idea."
And the powerful psychers can just straight-up mind-control people. They can look at a person and say "you are now loyal to me." and from then forwards, they have a loyal, loving, dedicated thrall to their whims and wishes.
And the problem is... You don't even know who these psychers are! They look like ordinary people, just like a random dude on the street. There are no distinquishing features that set them apart. It could be anyone.
So... how do you counter this? How do you counter someone, that can DIRECTLY alter your brain's thinking patterns to make you friendly, hospitable, accommodating and even worshipping them?
How do you shoot someone, who just changed your brain to "I don't want to shoot them, I want to help them!"
