It's amazing if you look at it the F-14 wouldn't strike many as an aircraft that entered service in the 70's but as a product of the 80's.

F-14 had already been in operational service for more than a decade (when viewers of that box-office-hit movie were suddenly "informed of" its existence)

A better movie that came out in year 1980, five years prior to "that movie" was 'The Final Countdown' as a film-cinema legacy tribute to the F-14; lots of kino flight deck and aerial footage there
