Update on my 30-06 reloads. I took some out this morning, same 47 grain charge of Accurate 2520 and I used CCI 200 primers instead of Ginex primers. Still had the same issues, still getting 2-4 β€œclick bangs” per clip. So I think the powder just isn’t filling the chamber enough to get good ignition. Bummer. But I did some googling and I see N135 works well for the Garand and it’s a stick powder, so it fills up the case well. So I’m going to buy a jug of that and try that now.

No. All of these rifles have worked just fine with my previous reloads using CCI 200 primers and IMR 4064. I was trying to find a substitute for IMR 4064 since it’s impossible to find now and it has skyrocketed in price. I really think there just isn’t enough volume in the case to make an instant ignition, which is quite surprising. I had a powder charge in the case and held it almost horizontal and I could see the primer flash hole.

About a year ago I made some reloads using Accurate 2520 for my Madsen M47, and I noticed an ever so slight β€œclick bang” with those reloads, but I just attributed it to the primers, since the primed brass I used had been sitting in a plastic bag for a good 6 years or so. So I thought maybe the primers were starting to go bad. Now I realize it must have been because of the 2520 powder just isn’t filling the case enough.

That's bizarre, I used 42 grains of 2520 for my Garand reloads and they all rain great. Used Ginex primers too.

That’s the only thing I can think of is the volume of powder in the case. These primers have always worked fine for me, and the powder has worked fine in other calibers. I’ve never experienced anything like this with any reload, using any other powder or primer.

ngl I think I want a Gewehr 41 a bit more. I know people say to never shoot one but I shoot a couple hundred rounds through all my guns each year (especially if its corrosive ammo cause I always shoot enough of it to make the clean up worth it) so I would definitely break that unspoken rule. Would be fine shooting clean ammo but I have 900 rounds of 70's Yugo and a can full of pre war german SMK bullets.

Update. I wanted to eliminate the primers as a potential cause of the hangfires. So I loaded up some rounds trusty IMR 4064 and used both the CCI and Ginex primers. Every round I fired went off just fine. So it’s definitely powder related. I’m just going to abandon the idea of using Accurate 2520 for my Garands. It seems to work just fine in .308 and a couple other calibers I’ve used it for.

I did some research and have a jug of N135 powder on the way.

I think this one right here is the only real competitor but it doesn't have the customizability you can get with Apfeltor. I was planning on asking him to make one that just disables the gas system to make clean up a bit easier and so I don't fly through my ammo
If you do have a shooters kit I'd be willing to buy it at Tusla but thats if I get a Gewehr 43 (Like I said might get a 41 instead plus I'd need to find one AND it has to be a reasonable price along with a whole bunch of other stuff)

If you're going to spend over $5k on a German semi auto, just shoot some non-corrosive ammo through it. You'd be better off not having to worry about missing a spot while cleaning and having something corrode on a rifle like that.

That's a fair price provided it's not sanded and the optic is an original scope. Original mounts alone are going for $2k these days and the original mounts are harder to find than the scopes.

I usually do the solid plug / bolt action thing on the nicer 43s and my Itajuba to save the wear n tear. I do have a beater one I shoot semi auto.

Yeah thats what I was thinking. I don't have any experience cleaning out corrosive ammo from semi autos (I'd probably just dump water on into the gas block then spray it white with balistol). I'm fine with buying clean ammo but holy shit its hard to spend $1.20 per bullet on clean ammo when you get surplus from .20-30 cents per bullet.
>That's a fair price provided it's not sanded and the optic is an original scope. Original mounts alone are going for $2k these days and the original mounts are harder to find than the scopes.
Looking back at my pics and video's the stock did look sanded but the scope might be original since it had the sun shade and he said he got it off a boomer who's friend brought it back from the war.
>>64203119
> I usually do the solid plug / bolt action thing on the nicer 43s
Yeah thats what I was thinking. Make it a bolt action and spend more time shooting the same amount of ammo and extend the life of the gun by a LOT since nothing is getting banged around

Also by chance do you know how sealed the thing that pushes the op rod back on the G41 is? I was watching a guy take on apart and it looked so closely sealed that It makes me think it's easier to clean than G43

I will say I have a memory of seeing a Gewehr 43 at Tusla but it was as I was leaving and I only glanced at it so hopefully I can find one granted they dont all get taken when the dealers are setting up (which I might not need to worry about since I might split a table with some friends)

Anybody got the QRD on the $200 Chinese Tokarevs PSA has right now?

https://palmettostatearmory.com/chinese-tokarev-type-54-military-c-r-eligible-4-5-7-62x25-mm-8rd-pistol-good-used-surplus-condition.html

Overall it looks like the best deal on a beater-tier but proven reliable handgun I've seen in a very long time. I don't even see Hi-Points that cheap in my area nowadays.

I know Tokarevs might not be the most amazing handguns but I've been around long enough to remember when they used to frequently be recommended on /k/ as a good poorfag CCW/self-defense option back when they regularly went for this $200 price or below and the ammo was cheaper and easier to source.

Reviews and feedback I've seen for this current batch from PSA say that while they're listed as NRA Good condition, there's a lot of variance in the condition of what people have actually received but no reports of people getting anything completely unshootable or irreparable beyond one review saying the barrel bushing was missing from the one they got which is a cheap and easy fix.

Basically, Chuck this or Sneed this for $200, /msg/?

they are shootable, though I recommend getting a spare spring bar thingy for the reciprocating barrel, thats the weak point on the gun and you get can replacements for like $45 (at least you used to, haven't looked in awhile).

Plus with the M41 the mag will feed ANY full size rimless cartridge, so you can quick swap the barrel and shoot different calibers. Unfortunately since the gun flopped commercially due to cheap surp available post-war, not a lot of the spare barrels were made/sold so theyre rarer than the guns. I picked up a 7mm mauser one for $2200 and lost an auction for an 8mm mauser one that went for $4k (just for the barrel).

Brings me to a Question I've asked before but never really got a straight answer to; is there any place that archives the technical specifications of these old machines?
Theoretically, if you had those, you could make (or commission someone to make) your own parts.
Not saying I want to become a full gunsmith but as someone who is a machinist I have to wonder if making your own new parts wouldn't be better in certain cases if you actually want to keep these old girls shooting.

some stuff has 3D models on printing sites/forums that were made in CAD by hobbyists, there are some public facing patent search websites that have drawings and dimensions.

Don't know of any central repository for that type of information. but I agree, its ridiculous how easy it is to 'lose knowledge' for technology in the modern era. It's somehow easier to create a new thing than to build new copies of old tech. Like when the Army wanted to buy the A-10 fleet from the Air Force and commission new airframes, but the USAF wouldnt release them and cannot build more because the original factory doesnt exist and they dont have a 'trained workforce' that knows how to put them together.

Heard the trigger safety makes the trigger pull significantly worse but we'll see I guess.

I don't care that much about the banner logo or it being in perfect pristine condition as long as it's serviceable to shoot and not so crusty that I can't clean it up myself.

Best case I get a fun beater gun and that will appreciate in value if I hold it. Worst case I do what I can to clean it up myself and flip it used for a significant profit since the market and prices for surp at brick & mortar stores in my area is ridiculous so people will buy anything surplus that isn't completely trashed for some crazy prices around here.

Having watched the video, it is functionally identical to what they've been making before. No idea why anyone ITT who liked their old videos wouldn't like it. Baffles me that people get so upset about superficial changes. That said, Othais is still a retard for giving the worst reason I've ever heard for someone not liking Evangelion.

.303 was initially (though not planned to be) a black powder round; if I started reloading .303, could I use black powder out of a Rifle No.4?

More so asking this as a "what if" idea, idk if there's any real benefit, other than maybe being able to make black powder from scratch like some people do.

For .303 specifically it would be a more fun and historically accurate project to make your own Rifelite or Cordite.
If you want to fuck around with BP loads do some 45-70 stuff or get a percussion cap muzzle loader if you want be fucky with home made BP

I have several im trying to get rid of to make space, some commercial guns, but for surp I have a 91/30 and a bubba'd Berthier and some bucket/parts guns and I think I still have a spare Gew98. I am entertaining offers on the Gras Lee but no one that wants it seems to have deep pockets. Surp adjacent I have a .410 Saiga.

It'd be interesting to seriously consider how things might've been like if they actually issued multiple (as in more than the compromise of 1+1) magazines to soldiers in the field.

I'm not sure if the evolution of the Lee-Metford / Lee-Enfield would've been that different, but still.

Also, thinking of putting on a copy of the original scope mount on my m/38. Don't want to Bubba it too much, but the boomer who drilled it for diopter has already seen to that. Not sure if that excuses further permanent modifications, but I'm thinking about it.
