/FART/ - FRT general
Oldschool edition

A bunch of slide threads pushed the last one off the catalog. Also, I have a question to start with, what prevents an FRT from causing an out of battery discharge? Is having the reset disengage at the end of bolt travel the only way, or is it possible for it to disengage before the bolt is all the way forward without causing an out of battery?

Is it legal? Yes! Unless you live in a cuck state.

You've heard of FRTs, but what's a "super safety"?
>like an FRT, but a different mechanism (the safety)
>cheaper than an FRT
>$90-$120 for full drop-in kit
>3D printable or CNC (recommend stainless/4140)
>most are 3 position cross-bolt safety
>left is safe, right is semi, middle is fully semi-automic
>Atrius now shipping the only super safety that operates like a normal AR safety selector

How it works:
https://youtu.be/KIxsnh2fFTo [Embed] [Embed]

To make an AR-15 super safe you'll need:
>M16 style/"full auto" bolt carrier group
>H3 or H2 buffer weight (will do 600-750 rpm of 5.56)
>"low shelf" lower receiver
>SS
>any AR trigger so long as you give it an SS cut

Are there any ways to make the gun more controllable? Besides just getting used to it i suppose. Tried out my super safety today in an 11.5" and it was kinda wild. Just did short bursts since thats the ranges rule but even those went flying off target

Aren't the vast majority of BCGs sold today M16 carriers? Except Colt probably

>H3 or H2 buffer weight (will do 600-750 rpm of 5.56)
Can you adjust the gas or spring weight in-lieu of buffer weights?

>"low shelf" lower receiver
1. what to look for to determine what is a low shelf
2. what manufacturers sell low shelf by default
3. I assume you can mill out high shelf lowers, are there jigs for this like there are for 80%s?

heavier gun significantly reduces recoil, so you really should be using atleast an m4 length upper
higher/slower firing rate is also better for accuracy than what you get in a stock AR, shoot for >800 or <600 rpm
muzzle brake as other anons have said aswell, but a compensator will probably work better by reducing muzzle climb

I usually shoot suppressed anyways so I think I'm good in terms of weight. I use a silencerco Velos and mount it to one of their ASR flash hiders, would mounting it to one of their ASR brakes instead do much? I'm also looking into that gyroscopic muzzle brake from Romeo Hotel as well since it would hypothetically be good for high rates of fire

your suppressor is actually probably better because the back gassing will make the firing rate higher, and you have a pistol length gas system which should be making it even higher
the only other things that would make it quicker are buffer spring and bolt carrier choice
though you'll probably find diminishing returns at some point, so if its already fairly fast then going the opposite direction to slow it down might be better, i hear theres people who's FRTs shoot as slow as like a grease gun

Yes, the denial block is less than the MKE or HK - the real question is will the parts fit and will it hold up - but they usually lean towards looser tolerances. They cam be sloppily assembled and have a worse finish than the MKE guns, but from what I've heard they generally run.
Later ones used ALOT of RCM parts like bolt and were better regarded.
If it's anywhere near the price of the MKE's I would pass tho

Yes. IMHO avoid for now.
Both glock FRT's are seriously underdeveloped and very problematic. They produce the only 10/22 FRT and it's problematic as well - both are Forced Reset only.

Freedom Finger is blazing the trail with pistol FRT's they have a matured M&P 2.0 and TX22 FRT drop in g2g but also forced reset only. They have a selector switch model for the M&P about to drop, but they also do a Glock FRT and it's underdeveloped.
IMO glock FRT's aren't ready yet, and it's going to be an uphill battle because Glock FRT designers are trying to avoid making it look like a glock switch for obv reasons

Glock FRTs are not covered by the rarebreed settlement (neither is the super saftey for that matter) so their legality is in a gray area. They're not machine guns by a strict reading of federal law, but the ATF could still try and prosecute you for it.
Anonymous No.64217799 >>64217809

its a misreading of the lawsuit settlement
pistol FRTs aren't illegal, but its illegal for rarebreed to make them, and because rarebreed is supposed to sue everybody making FRTs over patent rights, they are theoretically de facto illegal to SELL because you'd be violating a patent right
however, rarebreed's patent is dogshit anyways because it was recently found out that the first FRT was patented in the 30s
so basically, they're legal

no, they've been suing over non-AR frts aswell, but it only seems to be when the same company is also selling AR frts
also they see the super safety as being covered by their patent, which is untrue
companies that sell frts for other guns seem to be untouched by them
its a giant mess overall until the courts make a proper ruling on frts, but so far the judges do not seem to be on their side

My attorney buddy has a theory that the Delta Team Tactical FRTs that Rare Breed was selling as part of the patent infringement lawsuit, were actually Rarebreed themselves. He has both a Rare Breed and a Delta and he says they are both 100% identical in everything except the Rare Breed stamp. He thinks they needed to fund their lawsuit with the ATF and made a new company to sell more FRTs during the case and that's why Delta Team didn't even put up a fight they just immediately ceded everything to Rare

I’ve decided I want to get a couple Glock 17s 1 to put a Franklin armory binary kit in and the other put a FRT in. There’s a gun show coming up and I was considering taking a Ruger new vaquero that I got in a raffle for $35 and a colt mustang to trade towards two glocks. I’ve also considered adding a FRT to my AK but I would want something that still allows for normal use for public ranges. Are FRTs enough fun to be worth it?

I would just get a pull release trigger versus the Franklin Armory kit unless you get a deal on the complete slide kit. Sometimes they sell blems for around 400 on their website.

Yes but Again, I'd wait because the glock FRT is shit RN.
The M&P is about to get a selectable FRT from freedom Finger that looks asimilar to a glocks switch.
Glocks will get a selectable FRT, but the Prevailing thought is to NOT make it look like the wish switch - ie either a push button on a cut frame or integrating a selector into the side of a new trigger

Just get a blem then. The selector is a nice feature but considering I can get the pull release trigger for 120-150 I think the value in the slide is a bit weak. Best of luck to you, I think you will enjoy it either way.

If you are getting the slide I'd personally just try and find a glock frame or maybe a compatible frame versus buying a whole pistol just to strip off the upper for one of them, but if you wanted to curbstone the glock 17 upper you could get a pretty good price for it to offset the cost of the franklin armory slide.

If you can't the good news is at least for now M&P 2.0's in 9mm/.40/.45 are economical to obtain.
That probably won't last when FFT's switch FRT drops - I expect a ton of chassis that are only Glock and P320 compatible to get M&P variants.

Glock is also pretty aggressive rn due to switches and the bad rep they create - they would absolutely sperg out over a switch like FRT

I got an AP5-P as well and I'd just swap the super safety parts over to that and stick the drop-in over my SP5 in the event one does come out. Apparently it's possible as claimed by Raregreed but the 3d printer nerds seem to think the design would have to start from scratch and would take a while to develop so I wouldn't hold my breath. Seems really fucking controllable out of the SP5 and I'm right near the original rate of fire albeit it is a 9-pound PCC. Yeah, I'd say so. The base MP5 trigger is alright but it's like 7-8 pounds with a little creep because the Germans were mega autismo and wanted 30 feet of drop safety. The other options are a Bill Springfield trigger job (the guy's a hack), a mystery meat HKparts trigger pack, a Timney trigger (these only fit a select few lowers and break), a Heckfire trigger (people complain about these going full auto randomly and have all sorts of issues) and I'm not sure what else. This one just feels like a decent milspec AR trigger with the usual bit of sponginess associated with select fire guns

so why do you care about a frt working in the normal lower? for aesthetics?

I've shot a lot of rounds through my MP5s and PTR-91 with the ambi navy lowers and it's just what I'm used to. I like the manual of arms, where my hand is positioned and how I can flip the safety around when the gun is not cocked. The aesthetics are a small factor as well

Is there an FRT for Uzi? That would finish out my IMI Model A.

the issue with Uzis is that they're open to closed bolt conversions and every single one is done differently depending on the importer

My atrius finally shipped, purchased july 22

Another issue with the Uzi is that the cheap gun should have never been closed-bolt anyway. Damned politicians and their stupid laws ruin everything.

Should’ve waited to buy the ARC trigger instead. Now you waited months for a piece of shit that’ll break within the first 100 rounds

I'll get both, I'm not poor, also I frustratingly missed the very small window to purchase the arc. I really am more interested in the arc though.

When you get it, get it running with a suppressor and an H3 buffer, M16 cut BCG, mil spec lower and upper, S marked Schmid Tool FCG, then once you have it running good, CRANK down HARD on the trigger PINNING it to the rear and see what happens to the lever.

Absolutely aesthetics.

Yo yo
Yeah it 100% is possible to have a drop in multi lever safety position FRT trigger pack. It would be similar to the Timney or Shootingsight trigger pack.
So my MAC-5K straight up broke and was going hammer follow auto and god damn it was incredible to control and just hose the target down.
Bought an MKE trigger pack and put that in there to fix it and get it running, and then sold it, and bought an AP5-P myself.
