Plus, it can't really be helped; these places tend to vastly underreport their crime and degeneracy issues to get people like me (read: those without substance problems, felonies, and incestuous relationships) to keep their little villages running.
Alaska is also just pretty gorgeous no matter where you live, even trashier places like most of Anchorage still look beautiful year round. Weather is good for big warm-bodied white guys like me, and it's such a wild place. Very undeveloped. If I wanted to disappear and build myself a settlement in the woods, I absolutely could and it would be years before anyone found me.
