For shorter ranges the datalinks aren't that important unless you're coordinating salvos for the same time on target, they can give you better BDA and situational awareness but they're not essential. For longer range missiles, especially slower ones, they are quite important for midcourse corrections as the targets are moving. That's one of the reasons soviets invested into supersonic missiles - you can get more effective range out of a fast missile because it clears more distance in the same time period that a ship has to change its position and move outside of the targeted area where the missile can detect it.
Another use for datalinks is controlling the target ID to avoid hitting bystanders or other ships that you're not aiming at but LRASM and supposedly NSM do have ship classification capabilities that already help with that.
