That does make things really tricky, again this is the perspective of a millennial whose peers are in a much different stage of life. I realized I didn’t have any real social connections post divorces so ironically I used apps to find people looking to make friends. Found a group of people interested in board games and invested time into that group until there was an opening. Your mileage will vary for sure, again I was pretty lucky. But even if it hadn’t worked out I also just made some good friends, many from out of state so they weren’t complete losers they just hadn’t made any connections yet, and now we also go shooting or hiking, etc as well.

Biggest advice is: Find people you can interact with in person, learn how to read a room (an actually learnable skill, I used to be intensely socially awkward), learn how to display empathy (even if you don’t mean it), learn how to be a graceful winner and loser, and never info dump or drink too heavily until you get a SOLID gauge on how folks around you act while drunk first.

I don't know what country you live in, but 30% income tax and 24% sales tax is insanely high compared to the US. 40% of Americans pay no income tax at all. Most of the rest pay 20% or less. You have to make over 197k to hit 30%, and even then you're only paying that rate on the amount earned over 197k.
