They made kino a lot of things. It's hard for me to reconcile the fact that zigger brainrot has obviously always been endemic to Russian culture with the massive contributions they've made to the arts and industrial/military design over the 150 years or so leading up to the fall of the Soviet Union.

Yes, but also most of those places were part of the Russian Empire for hundreds of years before the formation of the Soviet Union so it seems silly to claim that they're not Russian even if they don't share the Muscovite culture. Besides, I'm quite sure that more than none of them could be considered Russian in the strictest sense, although I don't have any particular interest in going one by one down the list.

there's several plausible explanations for the loss of uss scorpion, just like there is with kursk. both suffered an initial smaller acoustic event followed by a larger one. for kursk, the htp propellant of a torp going up, like what happened on hms sidon, is one likely cause, but that could have been the result of something else that triggered it.

these things are some of the great mysteries of modern history.

unofficially, collisions or opfor torp shots tend to be thrown around more with the unexplained losses.

poor maintenance and shoddy equipment
a theory floated by some navy officer was that they topped up the torpedo with contaminated compressed air which then leaked into the peroxide tank through a leaky valve that was supposed to open only during launch
when that thing exploded and the submarine hit the bottom several more torpedoes exploded as well, modern weapons would be almost completely inert when not armed

Example:

The Kursk was obviously something in the torpedo room making the torpedoes cook off because if I'm remembering correctly there were multiple explosions in quick succession after the first and they were powerful enough to completely destroy the torpedo room

The next part took me over an hour to write as I tried to chase down sources

As for the scorpion it's not as open and shut as I remember since the battery explosion theory is best supported with reports I can't find online.
tl;dr:
>Evidence scorpion's batteries were hot and exploded before flooding occurred
>Allegedly there's a SOSUS graph out there that catches two small explosions several minutes before the hull implodes
>At least one crewmember probably survived long enough to get a life jacket on

According to these links the Structural Analysis Group investigating the Scorpion has good evidence that the batteries were overheated and exploded before any flooding or implosion happened. Unfortunately the primary source for this is the SAG report which isn't anywhere online and you'd either have to make a FOIA request or snail mail Bruce Rule to get a copy of it

And before I go to bed anyone interested should read "Cold War Submarines: The Design and Construction of U.S. and Soviet Submarines" by Polmar and Moore. You'll gain an appreciation for the good and the bad of USSR subs. If you want to learn more about the wacky antics of soviet submarine crews the glowies have you covered with many interesting fables with everything from heroic sacrifices to three stooges tier slapstick but with nuclear reactors and torpedoes.

Really? I think not. The first hydrogen bomb was detonated by the USA. The russian bomb was based on spy data and not an indigenous developement. So was the first conventional russian nuclear bomb. Do I need to mention the role of Gods Chosen People in this knowledge transfer?

Don’t know what caused the disaster, but i sure as hell know what happened after - russia rejected western help that could’ve saved sailors, just to "save face" and look tough. They let their own men suffocate so the regime wouldn’t look weak. That’s the real story behind Kurks.

It stops being kino if you read about it in depth.

It was all cope for being soundly beaten in the quiet game which they have ALWAYS been losing simply because western technologies and know-how were unachievable for them and still aren't. So they started coming up with supposedly meta-breaking ideas like lets make a titanium submarine that goes SUPER FAST AT INCREDIBLE HIGH SPEED except it turned out to be a shit idea that never worked anywhere close to what they intended and the bismuth cooled reactor was a fucking maintenance nightmare. All cool Soviet concepts were like that - they were jerking off to the complexity of it that was impressive to the non-technical political party people okaying the project and got beaten by minmaxxed autistic simplicity of western concepts every single fucking time. This translates broadly to all types of military equipment and is a pattern that keeps repeating throughout the Cold War until today without failure.

Making a quick pass a few big names, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Nabokov, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Rimsky-Korsakov, Kandinsky, Vrubel, Vereshchagin, and Tarkovsky were all born within the borders of modern-day Russia. That said, I still think it's silly to call people "not Russian" when the place they're from was part of Russia for 300 years before they were born and 100 years after they died. Nabokov (baltic & german), Rimsky-Korsakov (lithuanian & polish), Vereshchagin (tatar) at the very least.
Also Dostoevsky (from around the polish-lithuanian origin), Tchaikovsky (orthodox polish & ukie), to a lesser degree also Rachmaninoff (of moldovan nobility).
Arguably Tarkovsky (look up from where his father was) and Kandinsky (of finno-ugric mansi people nobility), Vrubel (from polish nobility).
