Israeli bomb shelters Hamas/Hezbollah/Iranian rockets missiles Syria Druze Alawite mountains
Wtf?

Israeli bomb shelters are puny above ground buildings that look like ordinary miniature buildings.

I thought they would be underground Cold War style fallout shelters like in America in the 1950s and 1960s with thick blast doors and walls.

I understand how these can stand up to homemade Hamas Qassam rockets.

But I don't understand how these can possibly defend against Hezbollah military grade Grad and Katyusha style rockets or Iranian IRBM ballistic missiles.

This can defend against ballistic missiles striking it? Am I missing out on something?

Also, why are these "bunkers" seperate from homes and buildings?

So people have to run from their house or workplace into an entirely seperate shelter every time an alarm goes off.

Why aren't the shelters right inside the house?

https://www.businessinsider.com/a-look-inside-israels-bomb-shelters-photos-2014-8

And the public roadside shelters near Gaza didn't even have doors enabling people to toss grenades inside.

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/11/world/middleeast/israel-hamas-oct-7-attack-shelter.html

And Kibbutz near Gaza had zero fortifications.

No trenches, no moats, no concrete or hesco walls, no barbed wire, all the guns located in a locked central armoury that only one person held the keys to and if he got killed everyone is unarmed.

For that matter I don't understand why Hezbollah didn't build moats, concrete dragon's teeth and barbed wire fortified walls around their villages either in south Lebanon.

Villages in the region should look like medieval style miniature castles.

Assad also had 13 years to turn Alawite mountain villages into fortified redoubts in case he lost Sunni Syria.

He didn't do jack shit. His home village Qardaha had no fortifications when HTS rolled into the mountains.

Druze also had years to fortify their mountain villages in Suwayda with concrete barriers, dragon's teeth, trenches, moats, barbed wire.

They didn't do any of that and just fought with AK-47s in street battles

Your picture is an entrance into an underground shelter you sperg.

>Also, why are these "bunkers" seperate from homes and buildings?
Because you can't drill into foundations of every structure. Newer buildings in Israel are required to have airstrike shelters.

lebanease army also 'cant stand up' to israeli weapons.

in general these should not be needed, the better solution is kill all the terrorists in the area so there anent rocket problems but that takes time which can hopefully be minimized.

they have those but most are like you see in the picture because you don't need more to protect yourself against hamas sugar rockets

Could Hamas use chemicals or smoke to kill people inside a locked bunker with a door by trying to direct smoke into the door seams?

Do they have ventilation to prevent that?

Saddam had chemical weapons and scud missiles. He launched scuds at Israel. They must have incorporated gas proofing into the bunkers otherwise they were fools.

There are basically 5 types of official shelters in Israel

First are full bomb shelters with air filtration systems and the like, are in all the big cities. They were heavily used in the recent war with Iran and nobody in the shelters were harmed by a missile so they did their intended job, though a lot of it has to do with a fact that the majority of iranian missiles were downed or failed or impact.

Second are anti-rocket shelters that are above ground but concrete meant to protect oneself from rockets, often are on the side of roads or beaches or etc.. mostly are in the south but aren't used much anymore since rocket fire from gaza is dead.

Third are "protected spaces" that are just extra-fortified meant to protect you if you're in a high-level apartment or etc.

Fourth are for Arab towns and are basically wooden shacks with minimal protection if any. Are there due to political pressure.

Fifth are for military command & control, military & top political leadership. Are supposed to withstand nukes or the like.

Sixth are underground hardened shelters for fighter jets, nukes, etc. but these are just rumored to exist and never confirmed

They've also built and anti-drone/airstrike hangar for submarines near Haifa Nazi Germany style. It's an ugly eyesore but nobody is allowed to report on it. Hamas/Hezbollah/Iran have talked about destroying the subs multiple times in the war on twitter etc but nobody takes it seriously.

Hamas has done everything it could have done by now, now they're just a threat to local IDF via IED's.

anyway using chemical weapons on Israel would result in WMD's being used on the aggressor's population in retaliation.

firstly, the in apartment shelter, mamad, the most common one, is designed to withstand up to a 1-ton warhead, as long as it's not a direct hit that would penetrate or compromise the walls or ceiling kinetically
secondly, they’re more meant to protect against the secondary effects of an impact, like shrapnel and against collapse.
so while it won’t survive a direct IRBM hit, it reduces the kill zone to just direct hits, so statistically it reduces the casualties significantly
thirdly, civilians are more likely to go into a shelter if it's a room in their house or apartment rather than if it's outside and underground, especially when the time from detection to impact is usually 15-90 seconds, depending on how close you are(for launches from
Iran and Yemen, it's 15 minutes) and fatigue sets in quick
and finally, underground bunkers are common in Israel. you can find them in older neighborhoods and public places, like schools.
there is a massive underground bunker under rambam hospital, serving during peacetime as underground parking, but gets converted during war to an underground hardened hospital

and a test from years ago imitating a non direct SCUD hit

Because the Palestinians are the aggressors and they don't want anything getting in the way of them killing Jews. Note how they cry every time Israel puts up fences to keep terrorists out. If Israel was full of genocidal land-grabbing demons the Palestinians should be thrilled about the Israelis building fences and wall between the two since those are purely defensive structures which function both ways. But they hate them because it means they can't cross over and murder people.

Like in Chechnya.

https://books.google.ru/books?id=dJCuTe92uCYC&pg=PA281

>Only Khattab and Basayev had organized bases. Back before the war, Khattab had transported trailers like the ones workers live in at big construction sites into the mountains. He'd ordered them dug into deep caverns, then covered with earth, and camouflaged. In each of the stove-heated rooms twenty people could sleep in bunk beds. They made their weapons storehouses and larders in caves. It was said that Khattab even had bananas and dried dates and figs in his larders.

>Israeli bomb shelters are puny above ground buildings that look like ordinary miniature buildings.
Your pic is clearly an entrance to an underground shelter, look at the slope to the right.
>But I don't understand how these can possibly defend against Hezbollah military grade Grad and Katyusha style rockets or Iranian IRBM ballistic missiles.
Not all shelters are made equal, some are meant to protect against ICBMs and biochemical attacks, others are there to protect against flying trash cans.
In either case even a "worse" shelter is a significant improvement, because shrapnel is the most likely to be what gets you, not the rocket hitting you right in center of mass
>Also, why are these "bunkers" seperate from homes and buildings?
Presumably because retrofitting old buildings is impractical so you build one for the immediate neighborhood
>Why aren't the shelters right inside the house?
Newer apartments have reinforced rooms
Even newer buildings have a floor shelter (as in, for that particular floor, not a shelter embedded into the floor)
Slightly older buildings have a building-wide shelter with the Gulf war and the threat of biochemical weapons in mind.
