Replaced the 2012 Magpul on my Colt 6920 with 2022 Magpul, zeroed it at 36 yards and bought a Rugged Obsidian 9 for my pistol today.
I have a muzzle device for 5.56 that I bought to put my 30 cal can on the AR but I shoot it mostly unsupressed and Im wondering if its even worth putting on?
It doesn't direct the gas up like the birdcage so I feel like it'll make the recoil impulse feel worse unsupressed.

Open to other suggestions for a 5.56 can though.

Directing your muzzle downward is generally unnecessary in the first place. Your felt recoil and muzzle climb will be reduced by adding weight to the end, as long as you're keeping your cyclic rate in check. That said, it won't be a big difference, and I'm not sure how much sound & flash suppression you're actually going to get out of a .30cal can. If you need a suppressor, you should get a 5.56 one.
