How much you can do is entirely up to how willing the pastor is to let you.
At bare minimum you want two regulars armed and sitting in different parts of the church. Even better if the pastor/somebody facing the pews is one of them. You want multiple because if they get hit first or they aren't there that day then you're defenseless.
Ideally you want as many trustworthy parishioners to be armed and spread out as possible. If your pastor is willing, it's just as important to have people trained in first aid. Stop the Bleed courses in my area are typically $10-20, run a couple of hours, and they would be happy to come to the church on a weeknight if there are people interested. If you're an "end times" type church he might even be onboard for an organized security team that goes to the range together once a month or so. If your scenario of 3-4 attackers happens you're going to take casualties, that's just how it's going to be short of Divine intervention. Your job is to limit those both by having men who can stop the intruders and others who can keep the wounded alive until help arrives.

These guys are right. Unless you're running a doomsday cult the congregation absolutely will not agree to the staggering amount of money and regulations you would need to put in for guaranteed safety. Your church would look (and feel) like a prison.

I couldn't agree more. There's a unique charm to Southern/Appalachian Christianity. I also love our Orthodox chants but I don't know any Christian who could hear this and not be moved

"He that hath no sword, let him sell his cloak and buy one." There's a difference between being forgiving and being a doormat.
