Mauser Tawk
We need to have some discussion on mausers and their authenticity.

Are mitchells mausers real mausers? There's been a lot of debate over the years if they are genuinely the real thing or not.

They say refurbished but there's a lot of work that's been done and sometimes even parts are removed.

I hear they convert some to other calibers like 30-06.

Does that still make it a mauser?

Is it a real mauser?

Will it ever be a real mauser even though there are some people who say it is?

Here we have a mauser with a new stock.
Now does that still make it a mauser?
Is it really still a mauser at that point?
Obviously the collectibility goes down, in most cases, some people still have fun with them though.
So what makes it a mauser is the real question I guess.

Why do you have to come here to talk about what happened yesterday? Why cant you just talk about it on the place dedicated to talking about it?

Is that yours?
What material is it? It looks synthetic and not authentic wood.

You must have some reading comprehension issues because Mitchels mausers has completely destroyed the collectibility of mausers.
Its hard to tell what a real mauser is anymore.
Do you even understand that?
We are talking about mauser authenticity.
Look up Mitchells Mauser controversy.

its not mine
looks like a synthetic black monte carlo stock
a real shame how they remove parts from mausers and just frankenstein them

Mausers are a nohunt wokie rifle. No self respecting hunter in Utah owns a Mauser unless it’s an hand me down from grandpa, and you definitely wouldn’t restock it. It probably has some gravy seal brand scope like a nightforce.

You have a very specific posting style and its easy to follow you around /k/. You clearly want to talk >>>/pol/ shit so take it there.

I don't know why you need to lie but I just want to talk about mauser authenticity and mitchel mauser controversies - like I said.
This is my only thread and have not posted outside it, have not posted in /k/ for years.
Because it is filled with liars.
So what makes a real mauser?

Mitchell's was notorious for scrubbing original markings and re-stamping things to force serial number matching on captured rifles, or dressing up Mausers made by Czechs or Yugos as German with fake stamps. They would advertise their rifles as true original WW2 German rifles even if that couldn't possibly be the case, and print ads in magazines claiming that if the boomers buying them didn't jump now they'd miss out.

This business practice was at the very least highly unethical and potentially outright fraudulent. Mitchell's rifles are universally shunned by collectors because this was a short sighted, destructive money grab pretending to preserve history.
Suffice it to say, a Mitchell's rifle has no historical authenticity.

That said, they are milsurp Mauser rifles. That much is certainly true. They just aren't the Mausers that Mitchell's passed them off as. Mauser rifles were manufactured and used by dozens of countries for many decades in many different configurations. It is just that the German WW2 examples are the most in-demand (and therefore valuable to the average buyer) examples, hence the scam.

They are real Mausers however, they are often refinished and may be re-marked, they are not the best for collectability but if you want a good shooter they are fine.

What makes a "real Mauser" is it being an original, licenced or copied example of a Mauser 1891-98 action and issued to a military force. A Swede Mauser is a Mauser, as is a Spanish Oviedo 1916 or an FN M1950. The world of military service Mauser rifles is so much bigger than just German K98ks.

Even then, the design of the action inspired the Springfield 1903, Arisaka and a lot of modern bolt action hunting rifles such as the Winchester Model 70 and Ruger M77. In the broadest possible definition those are Mausers too, but that is debatable.

Mausers are real Mausers.

There is literally a market in germany for old mauser actions. Gunsmiths fit them with new barrels and hunting stocks and sell them at considerable price. The old actions are good and cheap enough that they beat out new produced mauser actions, which are crazy expensive (probably precisely because they barely have a market).

>issued to a military force
Peacetime civilian mausers are actually generally better than military production.

I guess that's true, FN sold sporting production Mausers post war as well and those are very nice. Made on mostly the same tooling as their military contracts.

My uncle got into a handful of Siamese Mausers and chambered one of them in .45-70. It's in my gun safe now with a box of his handloads. When he gave me the rifle and the rounds he told me to not let anyone with a levergun shoot the handloads because they'd probably break their action. I've touched off a few of those things after shooting some factory loads, and I'm not sure I want to keep them around due to whatever the hell he loaded them with. He also gave me a .500 Nitro Express and the handloads for that are more enjoyable to shoot than the .45-70 handloads.

That's not limited to Germany. Old mauser actions are valued by US gunsmiths as well. You don't see those kind of rifles discussed much on /k/ but old mauser actions are highly desired to build custom target or hunting rifles. Picrel was built using an action from 1935.

Either he gave you some real weak .500 NE, or that gun fits you much better than the .45-70, because those ought to be in a whole different class of power. A standard .500 NE is 3 times the power of an old-school .45-70, about double a modern .45-70 load, and significantly more powerful than even a "ruger only" .45-70 handload. It's simply a much larger cartridge with a lot more powder capacity.

That's a Mauser 18, a new production rifle. It's not a surplus rifle in a polymer stock.
