Was "mowing down" masses of enemies with machine guns ever really a thing? It's in movies a lot, but seems like it'd be very difficult to do if the enemy is spaced out and reacts to being shot at at all. Aside from a couple incidents in Ukraine where guys got caught dismounting from vehicles, I don't think I've seen actual confirmed incidents. There was a Hamas ambush of a few IDF guys standing close together, but even that I think only got 2 out of 3 of them from quite close with the element of surprise. Is it just an idea from movies?

Anonymous No.64252315 [Report]
My intuition is that mowing guys down in enfilade like the movies is pretty rare, but by no means unheard of. If I had to put money down, I'd think the vast majority of gunners with large body counts got them by unglamorously switching from target to target over prolonged time.

>>64252000
This strikes me as a very zoomer befuddlement. Everything being filmed everywhere and all the time is an incredibly recent phenomenon. Even GWOT era the shit you saw was pretty choice-ly shot and shown. It's only in the last 5-10 years that you can be damn near guaranteed of video of everything so much as a PFC pissing on a grenade.

casualties came primarily from artillery, with machine guns pinning them down and restricting movement to allow the artillery to hit them

machine guns did score multiple kills, but it was piecemeal, 1 or 2 people as they dashed from cover to cover
being able to cut down an entire higgins boat before any of them could leave did happen but it was the exception and not the rule, but its just a grisly event no one is likely to forget

He obviously can't tell a Zulu from a fuzzy wuzzy and is referring to Omdurman where 52000 spear armed shias attacked 8000 British soldiers armed with quick firing horse artillery field guns and maxim guns. Most of them died before they even got within range of a Lee Enfield.

There was an even crazier incident a few years later. In 1903 Britain sent an armed delegation to Tibet and 3000 troops from the Tibetan army who still had matchlock muskets tried to stop them. The British opened fire with the maxim gun and killed most of them. It was such slaughter that the maxim gunners (20 year army lifers with starched mustaches and no love for orientals) ceased fire without orders because of how barbaric the slaughter was.

(WW2) Mitchell Paige held back an entire Japanese regiment with 4 machine guns after thirty-three Marines in his machine gun platoon were killed or wounded while defending a ridge during the Battle of Guadalcanal.

(WW2) John Basilone and the two machine-gun sections under his command held off an attack by a regiment of about 3,000 Japanese soldiers. He was one of only three Marines in that group to survive.

There were many more incidents in other wars like WW1 but those two are the ones I know from memory.

Your mp4 shows you using a Maxim in an unsupported position to engage enemies from about 300m away, with no magnification. I thought this was dumb so I made this to show you a better way. Deploy your bipod on flat ground. Use a magnified optic to see what you're hitting. Use thermals with IR tracers so you can walk your shots in. Engage from 400m away or more.

Holy fuck you zoomer faggots are just as retarded as boomers.
Listen here ya underage nigger, in the retard slavic slap fight there is little evidence of machineguns "mowing" down blobs of infantry because this doesn't happen. Why?
Because the two eastern European shitholes are in demographic collapse and are poor as fuck so this resilults in two factors. One they can't put as many soldiers in the field they would like and two they have to rely on flying toys hooked with explosives instead of artillery, air power etc because they can't afford it.
This results in a sparsely manned line where 2-3 dudes are fighting an assault groups of 3-4 dudes in the space of several miles, you are not mowing down shit in these conditions.
Ww2, ww1, fuck it even Korea and Vietnam did not have these conditions, yeah sure some accounts might be exaggerated post-factum but a dude killing 50 dudes instead of the 90 he claimed is not as bad as you would think and would still count as an incredible feat.
Holy fuck the fact that I had to explain something so obvious shows how low iq you niggers are.

/k/ and most of 4chan is now a reddit circlejerk where the mods cater to the redditors and allow them to bring the quality of boards down because they need the clicks and because they hate certain boards and certain political views.
They put up a notice that political posts and current events discussion belongs on /pol/ and then allow these faggots to break that rule because the guy they're laughing at who got killed was a right winger.
So that's what this place is now. Old /k/ is dead and it isn't coming back, and neither is 4chan. It's threads about video games and thinly veiled politics threads instead of discussion about weapons. And if you point this out then you're the bad guy who gets the ban, just like reddit.

Because redit is the anathema of 4chan,it holds the most milktoast opinions that rely on tranny mods to keep dissent censored. You can't be honest, you can't be blunt or crass you can't just dismiss people and call them faggots, you have to engage with the most brain dead retards in a respectful and not dissagreeable manner. It basically defeats the whole purpose of an anonymous image board which is to get people's opinions unfiltered and engage with them in the same way. The upboats and down votes also work in the same way to censor controversial opinions on 4chan it is the opposite for better or for worse as we get ragebait (you) farmers.
/k/ is now basically redit, the only rules should be to be on topic not to censor dissenting opinions.
For example I am pro-russian even if I know they are muslim subhumans for the simple fact that liberal democrats support Ukraine and I want to see all they stand for destroyed. You can dissagre call me a faggot, nigger, traitor etc but both opinions should either stay or get nuked off to /pol/ where they belong.
But this is not what happens, this board Is moderated as pro-ukraine and their shill threads are allowed to stay while mine get deleted. QED it is now redit.
You will not understand this since you sound like a war tourist at best or an election tourist at worst.

That's because machine guns have been around for over a century at this point and anyone who's watched a movie or played a videogame knows that you don't charge them head on. Back when they were first used, people had to learn that the hard way.

It's hard to put into words just how badly the French got their fucking teeth kicked in at the start of WW1. I read somewhere that 70% of all French casualties in the entire war happened within the first 365 days.
To be fair, the Germans took it bad too. A single machine gun covering a bridge chokepoint killed so many Germans during the Battle of Mons that they were eventually able to cross by using the piles of their own dead bodies as cover.
1914 was a particularly not-so-fun time to be an infantryman.

The purpose of machine guns is to THREATEN this, and yes it did happen whenever they tried human wave attacks during the Civil War (gatling guns), WW1, WW2, Korean War, and Vietnam. But the real purpose is suppression, and act as a force multiplier for other infantry forces. A machine gun by itself doesn't win battles, it is part of the infantry squad system.

For one, 90% of the concrete and steel used in the Atlantic Wall went towards fortifying the coast of Europe between Spain and Finland. The other 10% went to the Channel Islands.. all 76 square miles of them.

almost all of the german forces were stuck in russia. the invasion would have never even remotely been possible if the germans had just 10 divisions more in france at the time. the allies had to wait until germany was basically defeated and completely out of reserves to pull d-day off.

France made some awful decisions in the name of elan for sure. Not quite as retarded as WW2 Japanese banzai culture, but the French were deliberately kneecapping themselves under the belief that their stronk gigachad infantrymen with maxed out morale buffs will always figure out how to win victories.

>‘In 1893 in Southern Africa, British colonial police slaughtered 1,500 Ndebele warriors, losing only four of their own men in the process. This astronomical, almost unfathomable victory was earned not through superior strength, courage, or strategic skill, but because the British were armed with five machine guns and the Ndebele were not’.

- faggots somehow deny reality even during 21st century shit happening right now, with terabytes of high-def content generated from all possible levels;
- now imagine how easier it is to deny shit when some time passed since it happened, including but not limited to moving down people by machine guns, soviet human waves, blocking detachments and so on;

>There's lots of claims, but now there's several wars going on with tons of footage
Even that "ton of footage" just scratches the surface of what happens each day on the ground. I personally know people in AFU who fought since day one, and there were so many fucked up clashes, especially in the early days, that you niggers wouldn't even believe, and pretty much no footage exists from back then because filming wasn't that high up on the priority ladder for everyone, just because of how fast crap was happening.

I'm not that anon but one that I always remember is Beck and Adams from the Battle of Ia Drang Valley.

https://www.armyheritage.org/soldier-stories/sp4-bill-beck-ready-for-battle

This sounds immature but its nuts that Beck was basically like a FPS protagonist for a day. He was doing like 5 different things at the same time that day, one of which was manning a machine gun position that held a very exposed flank for most of the battle. He also drew all of this since he was a trained artist.

On the bright side, it would be pretty funny if they were the only one in the game like that and everything else was completely vanilla.
Like, they would just burst from a bush, jump into a BMP and then all you hear inside is muffled bass-boosted Caramel Dansen as it drives away; or it would make UWU sounds as it's gets blasted by CAS and sent ragdolling into the distance.

Was a thing in WW1 and 2, doctrine changed to prevent it
Smaller teams, more spread out, armored vehicles to hide behind
You need to remember WW1 was not that long after the American civil war where they were still standing in lines firing muskets
Between civil war and WW1 all the conflicts we had were slaughters of indians and Asians
No one quite knew how machineguns and airplanes were going to mix things up
