Neck armor. Militech, ebay police surp, mehler vario and tencate even make neckplates if you've got a line on them.
>>64252640
Sorry for the late reply, the 4403 is the most reliable certified entry-level IV on the market. Beats the Highcum 4S17M and RMA 1155's asses.
>>64252833
The Italians are from the late dark ages (0101.03), all-PE, can be compromised by mere temperature and anons have tested them to lose against 7.62x39 mild steel core, which is awful even by all-polyethylene standards. Normally all-PE plates can easily handle that. M855 out of even an ARP will very likely destroy them. This is basic ammo we're talking about here.
The Hesco 4403 is much heavier but is a stout, certified solution against .30-06 M2AP and everything below it. M855A1, M80A1, BZ API, M61 AP, M855 easily, M193 easily.
With armor you get what you pay for. If a deal's too good there will be a catch.

After the war ends and whoever's in charge needs money to stay afloat. Both Ukraine and Russia have really shitty domestic armor industries (a lot is C or even D-grade chinese white label) so expect a lot of trash with the treasure. Anyone remember those Atlas BR-6 plates ostensibly rated for 3x 12.7x108mm B-32 API? Or the Hyperions? Even UARM has had failures.
There used to be lines on getting cheap granits in 2017-2018 but there was always the risk of getting realistic weight airsoft fakes. Also the real ones would be labeled as airsoft to escape customs so you'd be playing russian roulette with half the chambers loaded as to whether you'd get screwed. You can still buy them but the prices are jacked.

I got 2 of these ucp IFAK kit pouches that they advertised as holding 7 usgi stanags. but I'm at an odds, surely these modern setups are team based, like what the fuck are you going to to with 120 rounds providing your own covering fire. my guy you have 4 magazines on your person and you chose to nerf yourself.
Fucking A the guys in somalia had at least 12, nobody is going to resupply you.
Anonymous No.64253269 >>64253291
>>64253258
The old adage continues to hold true. Mission dictates equipment. If the situation permits, operation duration is real short, and you value keeping mobility then four magazines is enough to hit a house with five other dudes and dip in thirty minutes.
If you have no resupply and are providing your own covering fire, as you describe, then a case can be easily made for 12+ magazines. We've got at least two anons that are rolling split vests with 2x Condor MA33s, so they've got 18+1 on deck and ready to go.

There's nothing too complicated about it. Aliexpress sellers, like with most things, have massive arrays of AI-generated patches and also patch designs they steal from other sellers. They sell shit on the cheap, quality is hit or miss, and hopefully you don't get dinged on import charges. There's a couple pointers with Ali:
1. Don't buy from shops with no prior sales, especially shop101818271 or other random numbers.
2. Do not expect amazon-level shipping speed. This will go by plane or sometimes if you're unlucky boat, so it's gonna be a minute. Don't buy anything on Ali that's time-sensitive.
3. Don't buy anything on Ali you aren't willing to write off in case it gets seized, "liquidated", or isn't as advertised. The return / refund process is significantly harder than Amazon A-Z or eBay and it only gets tougher as you go up the river to Alibaba and made-in-china.com, which are more factory-direct. Pic rel is the aliexpress guide. This isn't patch-related but it shows a lot of what they have to offer. Note, prices are likely out of date.
I've got a couple KAP climatic amortization panels in route, to put behind my Hescos, so I'll let you know if Aliexpress honors the "import charges included" language. Basica

Hot weather: just uniform, if chilly night just a jacket

Temperate: light woobie (helikon tex swagman roll, kifaru woobie, hpg mountain serape, jerven fjellduken lighter version, sarma tst thermal blanket) (or you can wear a lvl7 jacket + gloves + beanie + beyond insulated short pants)

Cold weather: heavier woobie ( jerven fjellduken 170g, sarma tst thermal blanket 170g)

Very cold weather: sleeping bag (carinthia defence 4, i don't know many other ones but I guess they exist)

Uber cold: (carinthia defence 4 inside a jerven/sarma 170g) (or just get a bigass sleeping bag like a carinthia def 6 or survival one)

As for water protection

-just wrap yourself in a tarp/poncho
-the jerven and sarma are waterproof so unless it's raining ALOT it should be fine if youre using those, zippers ain't waterproof tho, don't understand why they decided that way.
-get a legit bivy, although it adds bulk and weight

My personal system is:

Hugely dependent on type of round, velocity of round, plate / armor backer / trauma pad if present, so on and so forth.
I think it would raise v50s by an indeterminate, albeit considerable amount but nothing super definitive. If you're in Appalachia staring down the barrel of a .300 Weatherby pushing M2AP at 3,400ft/s, and all you've got are Hesco 4403s, could definitely help.

The safe recommendation for overt OWB is a Safariland 6304RDS. The 7000 series is a cost-reduced take on the same mechanisms and I wouldn't recommend it if you truly need a retention holster you can bet your life on (like if you're a cop). I have a 7377 level 1 ALS holster on my USPSA belt, and I'm not letting anybody get close to me with it on outside of competitions.

When concealed, you really only need enough retention that you can invert the holster and jump without the fully loaded gun falling out. This can be accomplished with any half-decent Kydex, and your specific comfort fit is what will land you on a particular IWB holster.

I would definitely wager it makes a difference, but like most things it needs more testing before conclusions. Kind of like running trauma pads behind ceramics.
Anonymous No.64264444
Speaking of trauma pads, there was this video from two threads ago - completely unscientific - showing a GOST-5A Granit plate, with soft armor and KAP climatic trauma panel, versus an ESAPI with only soft armor against 7.62x54R LPS.
While this video does need to be taken with a grain of salt and then some - since Russia tends to underperform their propaganda, it does show that a technically inferior alumina tile array Granit plate posts significantly lower BFD courtesy of a thick trauma pad. If you reran the rest but gave the boron carbide ESAPI a KAP panel, they'd probably even out.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qVAJa0RR0w
Again, this is only one test and it can't provide a definitive conclusion by itself.

immediate modifiers that come to mind after that post are, will the magazines work after being struck >certain caliber or shrapnel, mag composition (composite, steel, stainless steel, and aluminum), along with if the magazines are flat to the body or round facing first. really this is army science, and I sure Don't have army science money

All make sense. My thinking is that this will only incidentally increase v50s, since there's too many variables to conclusively say they will raise protection by this amount or this added velocity against this threat 100% of the time.
You would have to run batch tests to get reliable conclusions, which like you said cost army science money.
Similarly, I'm intrigued by the possibility of especially robust trauma pads that attach to the wear side of the platecarrier, as the Russian KAPs do instead of riding in the platebag behind the plate, being used to retrofit poorly performing armor like the RMA XRT to reduce BFD to less tenous levels or used to retrofit stronger plates, such as the Hesco 4403, to be capable of withstanding higher caliber or more energetic rounds without blowing the NIJ 44mm limit and inducing excessive behind armor blunt trauma. Adept is working on some "Ivoryguard" impact foam that I suspect is going into a perfected version of the .50 cal Colossus Heavy. I'd like to see (besides NIJ certs for at least one of their models...) how that Ivoryguard would function as a "super-KAP" 1" thick trauma pad.

What you're proposing is basically a classic trauma pad (non-newtonian) and plate backer (aramid) combined into one. Not a bad idea but runs into the issue of workable thickness and heat transfer. A 0.3" design won't do much unless you run it in front of the plate for the sole purpose of retrofitted drop protection for pre-0101.06 models. I think the Russian KAPs provide a good thickness model, plus ventilation, but adding a whole inch or so to overall thickness is a hard bargain. Would be an easier sell if PSA's Sabre Lancet released, .50 BMG shitrods raced it to the bottom on price, and by 2030, we'd be concerned about protection against dollar store IRA copycats with .50 cal shitcannons. Food for thought. There aren't any reliable civ-accessible .50 cal-rated options.

What's your favorite eating system / mess kit as an infrantryman?

I usually just carry food that's eatable right away without cooking and then water bottles, don't even bother with a stove and gas especially if I'm not stating for a long time.

But if I were to stay for multiple days I might consider a stove just to make hot coffee. If in a snowy environment then it changes cause you'll use it to melt snow and make a hit water bottle for sleep so it becomes more than a luxury item

What foods do you advise carrying? I'm tired of rations as my armys rations are absolutely shit under all aspects, they're heavy as they're just supermarket food in a carton box, shitty snack bars and heavy metal cans, no nutritional value just sugar sugar sugar everywhere.
So I want to buy my own stuff in the future, my idea would be dried sausage (ready to eat just slice with a knife, proteins, fats, high calorie density, lasts a decent amount of time especially in the cold), cheese (same as above), and some good tasty crackers/hardtack + obv coffee.
This way I'd be actually eating some decent and healthier shit than snack bars and chocolate, bc that's all I keep from rations, the canned stuff is heavy plus it's just filler, they've got like 200kcal per 100g, the actual calories are in the junk food, they just stuffed obese shit in it until it reached the 3600 kcal line.
At least American rations are actually intended for field use and are lighter, no need to cook them, ready to eat as the name says.
This shit weighs like 2/3kg per box, got no nutrients, shit flavor, always the same contents no variation besides the tin cans which I won't carry anyway.
Bunch of guys bring ramen but that requires you to cook it so it's not good inna field already, + you get thirsty after eating bc it's salty and it's got no calories nor nutrients

Rifle rounds smoke straight through most materials, so I feel like if anything a small amount of bulk could make them worse by pre-fragmenting them.

Conversely, I feel like frag has enough saturation to not really matter if 5-10 bits get caught by magazines/backpacks.

Pistol rounds I feel, if anything, are where having more equipment can make a difference. I've heard (so take it with salt) that schizos will wear sometimes backpacks on their torsos in shootouts with cops.

I do think it'd be really interesting to test empirically what kind of protection that can grant. What about shit like football/motorcycle armor? A steel cuirass? A gambeson? Now I really wanna know.

Okay anon

What you're going to want is a 1 QT saucepan with a metal lid. Get ramen noodles, dried rice. These are gonna be your shelf stable carbs.

Next, get quinoa, lentils, beans, peas, and edamame. These are going to be your shelf stable proteins that'll cook with the carbs.

Next, get a food dehydrator and dry shredded carrots and potatoes. Broccoli, kale, sliced bell peppers, and shredded sweet potatoes. These are going to be your veggies. Shredded (ribboned) foods have higher surface area, which'll make them dry faster and more thoroughly, as well as cook the same way.

For meats, get spam flavors for stir fries, jerky and powdered egg for heavy stews, and summer sausage (or Chinese dry sausage) for heavy stews. If you know how to render animal fat/tallow being a little as well and melt it on top when you're done cooking.

With all this, you have the capacity to make immensely nutritional, incredibly quick, extremely flexible meals with all shelf stable, lightweight ingredients. If you REALLY want to get crazy with it you can buy canned soup and use that as a base instead of water for absurd but it's easy to get sick with food that rich.

>Rifle rounds smoke straight through most materials
Soft armor yes, hard armor no. Anon was referring to how magazines in front of hard plates able to defeat various rifle rounds would affect performance.
Pre-fragmentation would be excellent for the armor because it disrupts the penetrator going in, leaving less "work" for the ceramic strike face to do. Since catching fragments is also the job of the plate's composite backer, that takes some load off the backer too. This depends entirely on the ammunition and armor, but is one of many reasons why I'd think the v50 would be somewhat raised. Depends entirely on the round and armor in play.
>I feel like frag has enough saturation
Depends on the threat. If it's large preformed or tungsten fragmentation from artillery shells, special grenades, or drone-carried munitions then it'll pierce most soft armor anyway.
What matters with armor is shielding the parts that cannot be attended to with available medical care.
>schizos will wear sometimes backpacks on their torsos in shootouts with cops
Usually they'll include a toilet seat cover in front of a phone book or something similar in a ridiculous ersatz attempt to emulate a ceramic-composite plate.
>>64269342
These are similar to the torso plates. 0101.03-era, made in 1999, rated to NIJ Level III. While the material is different from the PE torso plates, these will likely get creamed by M855 all the same. However, the rating is well north of virtually all pistol threats (you'd have to get real fancy with something like 5.7 SS190 out of a PS90 or 9x19mm DM91 out of a G40 or longer barrel) and you can't beat that price. NTA, but I ordered two and am going to incorporate them into my current setup. Will update how it turns out.
Also I just had a thought. Why not put these on a clamp attached to a picatinny-mounted swivel. Mount it to the nine-o-clock. Cheap gunshield that covers your left arm / torso if you're correctly-handed.
Would require some prototyping but the idea seems sound.

I don't have many good images of it so forgive the shitty cropping but the way I've devised to wear it is with two long strips sewn into the back (you can kinda see in the other pic) that have snap fasteners connecting to another pair on the straps of my plate carrier. The bottom of the piece sits on the lip of my plate, three velcro patches keep it from wiggling, and the two straps hold the weight up.

> chafing/mobility
It doesn't touch me and the inside of the plate has a curve, so even if I look straight down, there's no intersection. Weight is also a non-issue on account of it being an accessory to the PC.

HOWEVER, it does wiggle. I kinda half assed the attachment points and doing jumping jacks will dislodge the velcro. It hitting me in motion isn't an issue, since the concave surface means it'll be stopped my collarbone before my neck, but it does nonetheless wiggle.

Glad to help. It's definitely the negotiator's platform. Also, just for future reference, if you get anything not as described eBay has an extremely strong buyer protection policy.
If the seller's description is meaningfully inaccurate, such as condition, color, type of item, whether it works as described, etc, file an "INAD" return and make the hustler pay return shipping + refund. They can dispute the refund later but there's virtually no other platform that protects buyers from misrepresentation this well. Just don't be a dick and eBay is surprisingly a safe platform, even for high ticket items. If something is not received, file an INR return. There are other return types too, but you only get one return an item so make it count and file correctly. Do not close a return either until the issue is fully resolved.

Not to sound like a doomer but I'd get armor sooner rather than later. It's something that people are trying to get banned and is now banned in NY / significantly hurdled in CT.
Good armor also doesn't really "expire" except on paper given the warranty period. You can buy it now and it'll be good to go five years down the road. The market also moves at a glacial pace so if you buy some good armor today you won't be behind the curve later on - that is unless you're buying absolute bleeding edge on the gray market.

Anonymous No.64283167 >>64283208

Depends on the armor material. Since there is no universal "III+" rating you have to look at it in four basic flavors.
1. Polyethylene. Very weak, SRT-level PE plates ordinarily proof to M193 and 7.62x39mm will lose to 5.7x28mm SS190, steel core, at PS90 velocity. See Buffman RMA 1003 test.
However, Buffman also tested a more competent PE plate, a "III+", to lose against 9x19mm tungsten-core DM91. Basically any tungsten core 9x19mm can challenge "III+" PE. DM91, VTUVM, Libra Snail, 7N31M, Stilletto Systems' AP 9x19mm. Also very large steel core like the VBR .44 mag Paralight is risky. Note that these are all super exotic. None of these are common CONUS or OCONUS.
2. Steel. You need speed to beat steel, and a good core if you lack the speed, and pistols are light on the former. 7N31M or Libra Snail maybe. Depends on exact plate specs. SS190 is like M855 but half the core basically, goes slower, and M855 already underperforms versus steel.
3. Ceramic-PE III+, such as LTC 23707 or Hesco 3810. You need to match M855A1 out of a handgun caliber. Probably not happening. Since handgun rounds are much less energetic than rifle rounds you cannot rely on the 2" fair hit rule either.
4. Ceramic-PE III++, LTC 19513 or Hesco 3411. You now need to significantly exceed M855A1. Probably not happening.

Besting ceramic III+ with a pistol caliber is basically a no go. There's allegedly a prototype DU version of the Libra Snail per some cartridgecollectors.org convos, but that's beyond unobtanium if it even exists. Only PE "III+" is at major risk of defeat with handgun calibers, and you still need to use exotic ammo.
As for coverage, it's moreso that armor only covers so much.

Level IV: Hesco 4403 (.30-06 M2AP 1x or 3x M80)
Carrier-wise depends but the JPC 2.0 is a good generalist.
>can ceramics expire
For good quality plates the warranty is just a paper label and doesn't matter. However, bad quality plates use cheap adhesive and can result in the ceramic strike face actually delaminating from the backer - in other words making the plate functionally useless. Even plates from high end mfg's like Ceradyne have done this, see the 92547.
It is essential you stick to trusted guys like LTC, Tencate, or Hesco. Hesco had four NIJ suspensions (4400, 4600, 3410, 3610) but they made good on replacements and cleaned up. Just avoid the 4800, it's underbuilt.

The thing is LITTERED with pockets, to an insane degree that you wouldn’t even realize - it’s this layering of pockets that helps lend it some rigidity. It’s mean to be worn over a Crye combat shirt, to cover up that thin cotton section of the torso. Because of this, you’re ment to wear it tight and form fitting to the body. The back also has a pocket for a camelback bladder. Suffice to say, I’ll probably get a second one some day.

Shame the black ones were only made for the costume department on Transformers.

Opinions on the sarma tst lvl5 anorak

Just got it in the mail, in the pic I'm wearing it without anything so its a bit bigger but with a pc it fits correctly

The outside material feels "lower quality" or plasticky compared to other Gucci stuff I got like arcteryx and stone glacier jackets.
But maybe it's just that the matieral is thicker to protect from wind idk.
Haven't tried it inna field yet.
My only gripe is that the elastics inside are a mess all tangled up with each other and when you tighten them they start hanging out of the jacket

You can do airsoft gear in a non-retarded way with stuff you can actually use outside of it. Like good quality pants that don't look too tacticool, good boots, some medical gear (take a class too!), useful backpack (again, buy something not LARP looking) etc. Then just get a cheap 20€ chest rig from AliExpress or a Type 56 Chicom to add to that when you actually play. Dumping a ton of money into gear you'll use once a month and will just look goofy having is stupid. I made the mistake of buying a ton of high-end gear as a gun-owning yuropoor and regretted it a lot. Thankfully I was able to sell most of it off (to airsoft people, lol). Owning a fucking plate carrier as a European is retarded beyond belief. Any overt kit in the EU is completely useless. If you are a somewhat serious guy, focus on clandestine like a conceal carry holster, a good belt, good EDC knife, medical, having high quality (normie looking) clothes that wont shit the bed if something goes wrong etc. And acquiring a firearm legally.

Better to have and not need than need and not have. It is not a huge investment to get two Militech RF2 plates, or used Mehler Varios, either SK3 or SK4, and a cheap carrier.
Granted the armor market in the EU is completely terrible and most options are Chinese white-label, but that's what Militech is for. Better than usual Chinese armor for a little more than Chinese prices.
Ideally you'd want a carrier / plates you can run covert under street clothes but there aren't many persuasive options in Europe for that.

You will never wear it outside in your life and you will look like a psycho at best, terroristic threat at worst to anyone that knows you own it. Muh Ukraine is not an argument because nobody owned plate carriers there yet they now all have free ones. And the LARPer idiots that were roaming around the streets in kit in the first few days of that shit were all killed first.
>Ideally you'd want a carrier / plates you can run covert under street clothes but there aren't many persuasive options in Europe for that
PGD makes concealable IIIA + stab proof vests which is the only kind of ballistic protection I'd bother with here. Probably the same shit as chink IIIA soft armor though. I owned a full Templar's Gear CIBV with the neck protector, groin panel etc. which had 4M Tactical level 4 plates and PGD soft armor inserts, but I sold it after realizing I can't even legally carry a gun in the woods for fun, much less anything else. It was sitting in a closet and I wouldn't even use it for range trips, because why the fuck would I do that. Overt gear is a stupid concept anywhere outside of the USA.

Same deal in the US (let's face it, platecarriers are still fringe by facebook mom group standards and the general public). Do it anyway. This is a mentality problem. Nobody is asking you to parade around town in full gear. It's a contingency.
>Muh Ukraine is not an argument because nobody owned plate carriers there yet they now all have free ones.
And the armor inside is of poor quality, especially the Russian side. Ukrainians also have poor manufacturers. Mostly C / B-grade Chinese, D-grade Hyperion at worst and at best UARM - which isn't great. Better to buy armor now that's actually good.
This is a classic case of getting something as a contingency. There's no need to blow your load like the /r/tacticalgear meme boys going into $4k credit card debt for LTC 28595s.

Here’s something I bet nobody’s seen - and feel free to roast me for it: the 5.11 Tactical Trench Coat

It’s from a super old product line geared towards VIP protection personnel, I’d call it more of an overcoat than a trench coat imo given it’s clearly meant to be worn over a suit. It’s neat, has magazine/tool pouches on the inside that you can switch around. Inside the lining of each breast is a Velcro section to attach a holster - this concealed carry compartment can be accessed either from the velcroed opening or more covertly from the hand pockets. It also has a removable brown suede collar to fancy it up a bit.

Alright, that's a two piece belt, sometimes called a battle belt. I agree those are hinky, especially if they're overloaded and the velcro fails with jumping jacks. War belts are the fatter padded kind you can add suspenders to and create LBE. The armored versions, called "blast belts" are exceptionally useful in certain circumstances. They're usually IIIA but can be upped to 7.62x39 BZ API / M855A1 in rare instances.

Okay anon

Take you lentil paste and spread it out on a flat surface. Next add your crushed ramen noodles and dried rice. You’re going to want to carefully roll this and then slice it into diskettes.

Now while this is happening take your dry Chinese sause and stick it in and out of the stir fry spam repeatedly. The point of this action is to create a hole for your dry shredded carrots and potatoes. Discard the sausage for later.

Now, pack the rest with your sliced diskettes and garnish with kale. You’re going to want to bake this in the fire. I recommend a Dutch oven anything including a log will do.
