When soldiers are jumping out of a plane or disembarking from a vehicle is there really a seargant or officier standing there and whacking everyone on the back as they get out yelling "GO, GO, GO"

Yes for parachuting he is called Jump Master and he is making sure you jump with correct timing so you dont get tangled with other paratroopers mid air. It also helps those troopers who get a moment of hesitation at the door.
