fun fact, Ulysses Grant excelled in mathematics and equestrian; his record in the latter at West Point for the high jump stood for a quarter century.

He learned at Vickburg that marching all the way around the enemy was a pain in the ass and ultimately a waste of time, flank to the left was all you need to win a war of attrition where you have a vast advantage in industrial capacity.

This YES

the rest: No.

A baboon could have won the war for the North. All they needed was someone who would unashamedly attack.

i think you're trying to summarize all of military strategy in history. yeah. and it does work. because shit happens in between fighting a battle and going left. and when you do eventually decide to turn left everyone has forgotten about how the big chess pieces move. so yes. it would be a retardedly simple move until you find a fight and just move your units 200 feet to the left.

what. cmon. you didnt think military strategist were geniuses, did you?

He has a line about how he got into horses not because he was particularly interested in horses but because in politics, you either have a weird autistic special interest/hobby or the press will choose one for you.

But I can believe man liked going fast too.

So....would Ulysses S. Grant like Taiki Shuttle? (we should also mention he was very revered in Japan after his presidency and loved that country a lot)

it's not like you can do complex maneuver tactics when you rely on fast riders, bugles, drums and shouting to convey messages. war was figured out thousands of years ago, understand how an army would move based off it's state of supply and the territories they have to move in, with the equipment they need to carry, then how confident your men are, you understand basically everything on a high command level. the tactics boil down to either
>move left/right
or if you're hannibal
>keep the guys on the sides still while moving the center guys back slowly
you can only do more complex maneuvers with enough radios and then microsoft excel.

the power of being a sexless, autistic schitzo is truly unmatched. If the Union had a dozen /tv/ posters sent back in time they would have won the war at Bull Run.
Anonymous No.64262434 [Report]
>>64262349
I don't think a defeat at Bull Run would have immediately ended the Confederacy but it would have seriously shook them and put them on a much more defensive position from the outset which probably ends the war two years sooner. Lee understood it correctly, he needed to strike into the Union and make it appear too costly to the average citizen to carry on the war. If you're in open rebellion you'll fight to your front porch but if you're not the idea of letting someone that can fuck up your town/city simply because the government won't leave them alone showing up changes the equation a bit. Also would have helped convince France and England the south had an actual shot and it wasn't just going to be a slow bloody death.
