So when people say they don't like MREs it's usually because they ate it too often at some point

As a fellow autist I too can eat the same meal for months on end, but you need to use your brain and think of how normies feel. They loathe eating the same meal twice in a weak yet alone every day eating a derivative of it for months.

67 for two cases. $2.80 per meal, close to the cheapest they've ever been. I enjoy them all except for the baby food packets and the cheese tortellini.

I've been cycling through an A+B set at work, this is slated to be Mondays meal.
What's the problem with it?

I've actually generally enjoyed the four I had last week - #22 beef goulash, #23 pepperoni pizza, #3 Chicken noodles in vegetable sauce, and #8 meatball marinara.

Overall I think the meatball marinara was the best, I really enjoyed that one, 9/10 only because I haven't had the rest yet.
Included an oatmeal cookie, Italian bread sticks, a teriyaki beef stick, cherry/blueberry cobbler, and peanut m&ms.
If they had slid an instant coffee in too it'd have been fucking perfect.

Copy that.
I've been choosing the next menu via what I call "the ritual".
I get naked, spread my options around my feet face down, close my eyes and grab.
I haven't had any of the "southwest" flavored ones yet, I'm looking forward to chili mac and taco filling, hear good things!

Same. I've had periods where I only make one kind of meal that I eat breakfast, lunch and dinner for weeks at a time. I can also subsist on poverty-tier oatmeal porridge and beans for as long as needed after having burned through my paycheck on beer. There is no doubt in my mind I could live of off MRE's for an indefinite amount of time.

lol based. I eat bricks of baked oatmeal everyday for breakfast. I also have no issue eating rice and beans (or deenz) for dinner each day if it gets the macros I need.

Funny coincidence, I was just looking at the old archives and one of the earlier ones was also about MREs. Interesting read, almost 20 years separated from today.

How much variety do you get in your home cooking? I make myself less than a dozen different meals generally, while I could theoretically get or make anything I tend to just happily make the same stuff.

There was a bong unit in Afghanistan, on ANP Hill I think, that got delivered pallets and pallets of the same bong MRE option, and had to eat it for like 4 months.

nigga you can get these for like $3.50-$4 per pack for like 1200 calories per pack. Average person needs 2000 cal per day, the math works out to like 50 packs per month and around $200 per month to feed one person.
Anonymous No.64262506 [Report]
there's a guy at my local flea market who basically gives them away.

all the good menus get kept by the people they're issued too, by the time a civilian gets access, only crap is left.

They are pretty low canned food tier.
There is canned food out there that is actually fucking great and it is not more expensive than MREs. But I guess you pay for the fancy packaging and saving 0.1 pounds of weight on the packaging.

Speaking of which, many years ago there was a thread about soldiers having problems with constipation from eating MREs too much in Iraq / Afghanistan.
Some thought that it was hilarious but it was actually a huge problem, guys told many horror stories, one guy ended up needing a surgery.
It was from loperamide being added to MREs and building up over time.
I wonder if they still add it.

Anyone remembers this thread?

Dehydration and stress will cause constipation. No need to make up shit to explain it.

DHS/FEMA has been dumping a whole bunch out of inventory due to them being within a few months of the inspection dates. I saw 10 lots of 30k plus meals back in June, and then another 6 lots of 30k plus meals at the start of August.
I think it may be a bunch of leftovers from covid money runs meant to prepare for the wurst.

nta but as a fellow poorfag who dumps all his spare cash into random hobbies, you can get most of what you need from potatoes, protein shakes and a multi vitamin (my current meal plan), mayhaps he's in a similar broke grind and would rather dump it on cheap ramen or oatmeal that's much cheaper daily

Amazon, you can get an a&b case for $80 about $3.33 per meal. I buy them for camping, lighter than canned food and you can burn all the packaging. Fuck the chocolate protein shake, never mixes worth a shit and you end up with clumps, the knock off Gatorade is good.

Gotta squish the bag with your finger tips.
I agree they fucking suck to mix and you're probably going to end up horking down random chunks, but it's protein and for whatever reason they actually don't taste all that bad (compared to other protein drinks) so I like to keep them around.

Most of the menus are not bad (especially compared to most other countries' rations) and some are outright excellent. The biggest thing MREs have going for them is the sheer number of menus available. No other country even comes close. You can eat for weeks without ever eating the same thing twice.

But if you only ate MREs and didn't exert yourself accordingly, you'd end up fat and constipated.
The removal of Tabasco (first the bottle, then even the sachet of different brand sauce) was a massive downgrade desu.

A combination of bad associations and MREs only recently becoming good. The US used to have downright Terrible MREs out of a combination of not wanting troops to overeat and an emphasis on field kitchens.

My dear friend, I am autistic and I can live off the same menu for infinity. I love MREs because they are tasty and easy to heat. Shame they make me shit violently from time to time.

the MRE's still lacked fiber, they literally upped the fiber because of reports of constipation
the US ones are pretty filling too, i'd eat 1 and be full for most of the day
when you mix low fiber, small portions (compared to other food), plus the fact that besides dehydration - the food was dry in it of itself, you end up with people who can't shit

Yeah, I got a few cases of em off Amazon. But it doesn't feel the same when you're 40 and instead of carrying cheap booze and MREs up the a Pennsylvania trail with my friends I'm lugging up extra water and lunches my wife made for us and our kids.

It's still great, it's just not the same
