ACOGs: Secondhand, unauthorized, or authorized dealer?
Looking to buy a Trijicon ACOG 4x32 TA31RCO-A4CP for an M16 clone build. One of only a few rifles I have so I'm trying to "go big or go home" with an ACOG. I can probably snag a used one of dubious origin for sub $900. I can get a new grey market (non-authorized dealer) one for about $1200, and can get one from an authorized dealer for about $1330. Authorized dealers include a limited lifetime warranty + 15-year tritium warranty (send it in, they relamp it). Thinking of just going for authorized dealer for peace of mind but man this scope is gonna cost a little more than the rifle. Any advice?

Eurooptic

How shit of a rifle did you build that the acog is cheaper? Bcm 20” upper and any lower comes out to about the same price. If you built some psa piece of shit might as well go with a primary arms prism.

It's been a long time since it was expensive to build a good AR. You must be getting jewed

Optics don't hold value well so you could theoretically save a lot of money buying used. However, that assumes you have the option to inspect the scope so you can make sure it's not fake or fucked up. If you can't inspect or return the used optic, or if you don't trust your ability to judge a good one, buy new.

Optics are like watches, you are better off buying from an AD instead of grey market just to be sure you are not buying a fake or blem and have the warranty to back it up.

If the price difference is that big of a deal for you, then you are shopping outside of your disposable income level anyways and should prioritize not being a brokie before splurging on non-essential items.

always get acogs used if you can

You might find one for 900 but its hard to find that deal. Resale is almost never going to happen. I've watched the market in them for years. I'm trying for buy two or more myself.

Additionally bootlegs, and counterfeits are extremely risky so you'll have to be a QA expert nerd to ensure its not a sake

That's quite a dark color, someone should tell her to drink more water.

I've seen several used ones listed for sale; like any other expensive gun accessory, people buy them, need money, then have to sell shit to get by. But >>64262925 is exactly right, there are a lot of fakes out there, some of them are really good, and unless you're a nerd with that specific experience you're taking a big risk.

I got mine used off of eBay of all places. It was risky, but it payed off. It had no mount or box and was like $750, maybe around $850 after taxes and shipping.

That being said, you need the 20" version so it may or may not be more difficult to find. I would probably just get one on a black Friday deal. You're building a clone so it's not like you're looking to change it out so no reason to save a few bucks to get something that may not be what you want.

>Optics don't hold value well
Yes they do. They hold value better than guns. The new ACOG I bought for $900 from Europptic a few years ago is still worth at least $800 on the second hand market. Even really worn down ACOGs still fetch minimum $700. Same thing with Aimpoints. A brand new T-2 is $750 to $800 and a used one is $650 to $700.

If you meant to say cheap optics don't hold value I completely agree with you and hope my previous comment didn't come off as mean to you.

Aren't some Aimpoints rather difficult to find on the used market because they're so good that people tend to hold onto them?

>If you meant to say cheap optics don't hold value
Original price has little to do with it. You can find barely used Zeiss and Swarovski hunting scopes for sale secondhand for half what they did new, even though they were a couple thousand $$$ originally.

>>64265249
Like anything else there are always exceptions. There are certain obsolete optics which are hard to find that collectors want to complete some build. Stuff like the aiming module for the Mk23, Leupold D-Evo, certain examples of surp can be very expensive.

You can find decent finds in person sometimes. I scour local gunshows and had an old boomer with a box of genuine aimpoint comp4s for like 700 (very scratched up surplus), and scored an eotech xps2 for 250 because of slight delamination, eotech fixed it and it's good as new

Deranged post. Optics hold their value far better than guns unless it's some crappy Tasco.
