Just got a 10/22 and I wanted to get a scope for it. I just wanted to hear what you guys had to say before i buy one. I landed on the Vortex Crossfire II 2-7x32. Ive read a good deal of positive reviews on it but again wanted to see what yall think.

Side note, I know the scope needs rings. my question is, will those rings fit onto my stock 10/22? It came with a top rail attachment that I think is picatinny.

Taking 22lr to even 200-300yd is very hard, mostly it gets used at <150. And the recoil is damn near nothing, which is of course part of why it's so fun as well as good training. But combined you need barely any mag at all (if any) and even airsoft-tier shit will probably hold zero. If you just want to plink close I dunno if I'd even bother with an optic.

If you do want one though I'd go with one of the cheaper but decent value brands like swampfox or athlon or something, not vortex which has gone up a few tiers. All of them make astonishingly decent glass nowadays for their cost. A 1-4 or the like will be fine out as far as you'd take it, though a 2-7 or similar isn't a bad choice if you want to practice prs at shorter ranges and the rifle is decent enough quality.

As far as mounting if you have pic rail it's easy. Separate rings should be fine in this application and are cheaper+lighter.

Rings come in different types and styles. So long as you buy the correct height and diameter they will fit.

nothing wrong with shooting 7x at 50 yards. It's a 22, not a battle rifle. I have a 3-9 on my 22, I almost never shoot it beyond 100 yards yet I wish I had bought higher mag.

Correction, its a weaver type screw on rail. I could either get weaver rings or get a picatinny rail. Most stuff comes in picatinny now anyway right so it would be a smart investment? Not that they are expensive, I think i saw em on amazon for 24 bucks.

Yep thats exactly what came with the gun. What would be a good replacement? I really want a higher mag scope for mine but the compact size of this Leupold 1.5-4x just matches the firm of the rifle so much I don't wanna swap it out.

>>64275117
Anon those are 300 to 500 dollar scopes. I'm looking for similar to the form factor of this >>64275113 and for less than 200 bucks.

>getting a rifle rest as well,
NTA, but they are a giant waste of money unless you are into precision target shooting. You don't need anything fancy to rest your gun on, a rolled up jacket, scrap of lumber, sandbag, or whatever else works just as well as a dedicated rest. If you plan on shooting in the field then a bipod or shooting sticks make a ton more sense.

If you do plan on getting into precision, spend more on your scope not the rest. The rest is a thing to get after you already have the $2000 scope on the $1000 gun.

i checked out swampfox and athlon. Both of them had their cheaper scopes in the 200-300 dollar range. I was looking for something cheaper and vortex seems to be that option. Unless you can think of some other budget option brands.

I personally like my Leupold VX Fredom 3-9x40 Rimfire MOA, about $300. The 2-7x Rimfire seems to get down to about ~$260 on Palmetto State Armory's site weirdly enough. Reg price ~$270-280 depending on the Leupold dealer. I also like their 1" rifleman rings on my 10/22. I used Medium height. You may be able to get away with low but I can't say for sure. These are about $27 at Cabelas/Bass Pro. Their website also gives torque values if you have a FAT wrench/really care that much (I do, but...).
https://www.leupold.com/rifleman-1-in-detachable-medium-matte
Top rail on any modern 10/22 should be picatinny; I don't think they even make their old dovetail rail anymore, though as much as I miss it, it's near impossible to find anything quality in dovetail short of a few air rifle scope/mount makers.
>I know the scope needs rings. my question is, will those rings fit onto my stock 10/22? It came with a top rail attachment that I think is picatinny.
Did it come with the scope?

>Taking 22lr to even 200-300yd is very hard
What target size are we even talking about? I hit steel (~12'x12') out at 200 easy and 300 I'm just starting on. Almost 160 inches of drop at 300 yards, though, lol. About 55" at 200. I'd say up to 100yds from the bench could be accurate with some practice, 200 you could hold okay groups, 300 maybe just steel.
>But combined you need barely any mag at all (if any)
Positively IDing game or even just being able to clearly see your target is absolutely worth it. 9x is reasonable; a little higher I wouldn't mind but given the drop, with a 50yd zero you're not going to shoot past 200 or maybe 250 with 9x zoom+second focal plane unless you can dial for drop.
>and even airsoft-tier shit will probably hold zero.
Absolutely not. There's so many garbage scopes that won't hold zero from just walking around with the gun and handling bumps on the road/bumps from storing the gun or putting it in the car. Trust me. Barska, not even once.

Buy a Weaver 430T if you want to be sure it's a picatinny rail. Sold fucker of a rail; I own multiple. A lot of the Chinese ones in various anodized colors are worse knockoffs of the 430T and the Tip-Off combination dovetail/Weaver rail at the same price or worse. Hell, Bass Pro/Cabelas has the 430Ts (model 48335) priced at $20.

>>64275159
Buy a cheap bag rest and fill it yourself. Trust me. Can't recommend anything really as I got mine secondhand and filled it myself with pea gravel. Use something with a little weight to it but not something that will go moldy or hold too much water. Sand is cheap, like $4/50lbs IIRC. Rubber mulch might also be cheap.

>>64275456
Nah, throw a scope on it first and then think about barrels later. I have quite a bit of money thrown at my 10/22 and I'm still using a factory Ruger barrel.

>There's so many garbage scopes that won't hold zero
In my experience the problem with zeros shifting on cheapo scopes is rarely the scope itself, it's usually the garbage tier rings they come with.

I got it off Amazon like a decade ago for $30, totally mogs regular bag rests because of adjustable height. Don't know why anyone shits on them, they're adabtable to any range setup, cheap and compact. I'm not going back to the whole "jacket on an ammo can" thing again.

That is also often the case; Barska included this sticky shit in the rings to shim them. The screws on the rings wouldn't stay tight even just when handling the fucking gun over a couple days; they wouldn't just loosen a little, it was insane how you'd have like 2mm gaps under the rings when you wiggled the scope. However, after removing that sticky tape junk and replacing the rings with quality Leupold rings, my groups noticeably shrunk; I mean like 12 MOA down to 5. Replacing the scope with a relatively cheap ($300) Leupold, my groups once again noticeably shrunk once again, like down to 2MOA. When you buy cheap junk like that, you may have a scope that's just fine with junk rings but my experience was that the scope was total shit too.

I have a ruger precision rimfire with a leupold 2-7x33. @50 its as right as rain but @100 it leaves a lot to be desired. Im going to probably sell the leupold for a vortex venom 6-25x56 so I can practice NRL22 base class then get a CZ 457 or bergara b14 chassis.

Vortex' no questions asked warranty is based but their glass quality is kinda all over the board. I'd have preferred to have another leupold but their mid tier magnification is skyrocket prices and base class is limited to $1650 for gun/optic combined. Athlon and hawke have some cheap ok options too

I should add that nrl22 you have to shoot a variety of distances 25-200 and stances. And pricing works based on manufacturers website listed price not what u pay for it. Copper star precision has a great YT channel for getting started.

NTA but I have that same spinner. Wore out the nubs on the top that hold the targets where they are. And kinda started to oval out the holes in the targets that they spin by. So far, hose clamps kinda work but they do move. Yours is missing the extra arms that go back and prevent it from falling over, though; I think mine was Champion brand.

I've got no idea what mine is, I just know it was $20 on Amazon and I've shot the piss out of it. So far no egging going on, but I have no doubt it'll be a thing eventually. Honestly I think the welding for the foot brace bar is going to go first, I'm just waiting for it to at this point.

if it's not too late get 3-9. I use 9x a lot, because I'm just aiming for a rabbits head a lot of the time.

Buy a bolt buffer too it should be under $10 easy

.22 bullets at 300yards couldn't even penetrate the strap for our target hangers and the only way you could tell it hit the target was from the paint getting removed from the splatter. The strap was conveyor belt incase you were curios.

NTA but seconding the low power at that range as my range also has a ton of them stuck in the rubber at 300. That shit is tough stuff, though, and I've seen other calibers stuck a little more rarely IIRC. I plugged my ammo info into shooterscalculator while at the range to roughly estimate my drop and while I'm about 1280FPS at the barrel (box numbers) with 138FPE, estimate at 200 is 877FPS & 65FPE, and at 300 estimate is 785FPS & 52FPE. More than enough for small game but anything bigger than a rabbit or maybe groundhog is a big maybe. Not to mention the drop, about 40" at 200 and 125" at 300.

I'll have to plug in 22 mag one day to see what the numbers are like.

I have the same scope on my 10/22. I'm pretty sure I've got it on Vortex low rings and it's on the rail plate that came with the gun. The height is perfect for me but I've got the Magpul MOE stock on mine and I'm not sure how it'd be with a traditional Ruger stock. The setup works very well at 100yd but I've never tried shooting further than that.

I have that exact scope on my 10/22 works great and since my eyes suck I like having the magnification even just plinking at 100y.
