I was watching a news report on China dredging up coral reefs to build their shitty islands and had a great idea:

Why not dump canisters of sensitive explosives across the sea bed where China dredges? China dredges illegally, so it wouldn't be an act of war because the only way they'd get blown up is if they dredged where they shouldn't. Plus, it would still preserve freedom of navigation unlike naval mines. If a fisherman's net or some ship's anchor drags the bottom and sets one off, nobody gets hurt. It would only fuck up Chinese ships engaged in building shitty artificial islands. Thoughts?

I think it's a bad idea because it won't result in the deaths of the chinese fishers.

But actually, creating net hazards seems like a very cool idea. Explosives seem like they may be difficult, as you have to make them resist corrosion on the seafloor long enough to get picked up, yet sensitive enough to go off when dragged. I think it may be impractical to do this without occasionally bombing the seafloor habitat, which just strikes me as really unfortunate.

Something like a hedgehog though, seems like it really has potential. Disentangling themselves without just losing their net would be probably be extraordinarily hard, they're economical to mass produce, and much like sunken ships they may actually be beneficial to the reef environment.

This could be very effective, but obviously our first step should be issuing letters of marque to attack, sink and loot chinese fishing ships en masse.

Maybe some kind of binary compound that takes a bit to activate to facilitate placement. Or something activated by seawater. Or fuses which active only after a safety pin is removed and water dissolves an internal desensitizing compound. I'm 100% sure this is possible with even WWI-levels of tech.

Seriously, just one huge unannounced operation to sink the entire Chinese fishing flotilla in one go would be the best plan. It would take China years to rebuild, and deny them an excuse to use their navy to harass other countries.

No, no - we're disposing of UXO in the open sea, and this UXO only explodes if you try sucking it through a dredging pump.

Let's say we put a pile of UXO on some ice shelf in Antarctica, and the Chinese go there and start plowing snow that doesn't belong to them in a land they don't own. Who's fault is it if their snow plows explode?

The reefs are totally fucked with the Chinese there. Maybe only a few small parts of the reef would be damaged by the explosives. But you know what makes the very best reefs? Sunken ships. Instead of building islands, the Chinese would be building reefs! Win-win.

Not only would this not stop them, if they found out about it they would actively encourage the elderly to eat more fish in the hopes they would stop draining so many resources. Develop Remora drones which quietly bore catastrophic and rapidly sinking holes in to the bottom of ships in water so deep it can't be forensically salvaged. It's not like they didn't bio-nuke the world, or anything a few years ago with minimal FAFO consequences.

Since basically nobody but chinks uses bottom dredging nets anymore, because it causes a larger drop in the fish population an less eventual return we can use these to dissuade any bottom dredging and by extension hamper chink efforts to steal fish. And as a bonus they'd likely help restore the damaged bottom to an extent because they[d provide substrate for shit to grow on and extra cover, so there could would be all kinds of ways to do this legally and even get libtards to pay for it via their environmentalism fetish.
