Going to a gun show tomorrow to hopefully sell my M1 Carbine/trade it to get an M1A. Bottom line, what should I pay at most for an M1A? I'm thinking 1,300 for a standard 22" barrel, maybe 1800 for a loaded model.

My guess was $1400, but I'm always low. I think your estimates are good. Loaded will be $2100, or more for show prices.

How do I become an anime deviant? Is there a link to gun cat girls or something? /out/ is all faggy with yuru camp shit, it is so boring.
Henlo friends.
I want a .308 rifle that's on the lighter side so I can hunt comfortably with it. I am also a graduate student and therefore poor. Any recommendations on how to start narrowing things down? I've got a bit of choice paralysis since there's so many options and I can't find a way to meaningful distinguish between all the different AR chassis for example.
I was going to some shops locally but they just have whatever random shit there and comparing prices online only the handguns are reasonably priced; the rest it's better to buy online and pay an FFL transfer fee.
Is

Fellas, gunshow anon reporting back in. I sold my M1 carbine for 1,100 to a private individual. A little less than I was hoping for, but I used the funds to buy this 1993 NM M1A. It came with 8 mags, a sling, incorporates USGI parts, and is glass bedded. I don't think today could have gone any better.

Had some quirks with the gas settings. All the problems early in release involved the gas not being high enough. That's what happens when you use an AR15 adjustable gas block on an AR 10. It's been fixed by now... probably.

Its fine.
The stock gas system doesnt have granular enough adjustments for .308.
Ive got mine replaced with a pinned riflespeed.
The stock it comes with, I forget which one, is just about the most narrow magpul makes.
I swapped mine with a vltor I had lying around.
I still need to swap and test different spring and buffer weights, but with these mods it has tamed the recoil to an acceptable level.

Nah. You guys need to let them pay whT they will pay. If $1100 is market price, then good luck to them. They obviously have a different value of money and that's ok, too. The only real time I feel bad is lowballing on a distress sale. That's really taking advantage, BUT the seller doesn't have to accept, so...

By the looks of it, the market is already falling apart due to amount of houses for sale in my area, hell there's one down the street with 5 acres asking half of mill and it's been on market since the beginning of summer. The crazy thing about that asking price, those fuckers only live in the house for 6 years, yet bought another house literally 15 minutes away to be closer to their friends. I assume they're either loaded or stupid with money.
Back to /brg/, what's a good price for those Armalite Fixed Carry Handle AR-10s, a LGS has one for 1500.

With the ammo factories pumping out ammo for israel and ukraine, I wrongly assumed ammo prices would drop due to supply and demand. Prices aren't dropping and I feel like I was played. We're making more ammo and guns year over year, but prices have only risen slightly, no dropped. I want off Mr. Bone's wild ride.

Looking like a close at $370. Most here have done these auctions. But for those who haven't. Add in tax, transfer fee, shipping, credit card fee (in ths case 3%) or cashier's check fee (~free to $5 pluss postage) and maybe transport case or handling. So "the price" at auction close can be deceptively lower than actual in-my-hands price. Still, a blue and walnut 54yo Remington that is profiled and controlled like thier 870, 1100 and Fieldmaster (.22 pump). It had a rub mark, but to round out a classic Remington collection like the above listing, would have been nice example. And Clymer made some 10 rnd mags for this, iirc. I may bid on another item on the site fornthe first time, having seen this one sale.

Fair eoungh. Dispassionately sepaking, there are a number of reasons to build your AR10 as a second battle rifle. It can hlod a few twists from start to finish, so may not be a weekend build, but not too mysterious. I suggest keeping the M1a and buying your rcvr pair first. Then, as your budget allows, incrementally add the remaining parts. Protip, create a spreadsheet for your build list segregating compatable AR15 parts from AR10 exclusive parts. As a preliminart exercise, this will get you started with your knowledge base. Add n extra lines for acceptable alternates like barrels, triggers and scopes. If you don't want to mount a scope on your AR10, then just stick the M1a irons and forget it.

So here's the thing... when I started punching out past 100y with the M1A I was REALLY let down by its accuracy. It's like minute of paper out past 200 and I enjoy doing more than just shooting steel. So I bought and tweaked a Bergara HMR in 6.5c. It'll shoot sub-minute all day even with cheap ammo.
I kind of just want something in between those two. Something more accurate than the M1A without the heft and weight of a bolt gun. Maybe I'm putting too much faith in an AR10, but my 16" BCM 5.56 upper can shoot 1-1.5 MOA all day long with a 4x ACOG and cheap M193. The M1A can't come close to that and it cost almost double lol.

Kinda apples v. oranges. Innd your state rifle and pistol club and start shooting NRA Highpower with your M1a. Be open to coaching and when you find your 600yrd line-prone position just isn't improving, look for a matched AR10 upper and lower. I would check out V Seven rcvrs. Tl;dr, shoot more, listen to the better scoring guys. Drop the bipod, lol.

Personally, I am all for it and that remains in my top "non-buyers regret" listings. 1st a Browning Safari MK II in .308, 2nd a Browning Safari MK II in .338, both Belgian, both under $700 at 2 separate shows. A nice pair that would have been any-animal-capable for all of the Americas and Europe and most in Africa. Add in a Browning A-Bolt in .25-06 AI and That collection would be done.

It should be able to be fitted with a 16in barrel and 6.5 is a plus.

- ADM UIC10A
- seekins sp10
The DD5 comes in 16in and is lightweight, but doesn't seem to follow any "platform".

Pic rel was when I was messing around and found that a PVS-2 could fit on an ARMS STANAG mount. Not as good though since you can't adjust it at all mounted like this. Starlight scopes are so freaking cool. I am probably going to buy another PVS-2 for my M1A eventually.

The housings look 100% mint, but I'm not sure what the deal with them was, maybe some kind of refurbishing; the one I picked up at first had some optical bullshit going on (picrel) and half the image was kind of overshadowed, and I only noticed at home.
They make you waive warranty when you pick these up, but I asked Rudolf nicely and he let me pick a different one, still a chill guy even if his market practices got decidedly more jewish over the years.

I feel like his timeline got a bit muddled on some details. PTR introduced the polymer trigger housings shortly after JLD sold his stake in the company and the management changed. JLD metal trigger housings didn't have the three positions still marked; they polished off the Auto setting and added another stop so the selector couldn't rotate past Semi. JLD also always had a heavy profile barrel with the HK thread pitch; they didn't offer a true G3 barrel profile until PTR INC. introduced the GI model.

Alright fellas, STGW parts build guy again. Next year I should have the funds to have the 80% finished and there are at least 2 different people in the upper midwest doing barrels. My sort of heretical question is this:
>I am thinking of asking if I can get the end threaded, and have the brake/flash hider made as a separate piece instead of the 1 piece assembly the original was. The reasons for doing this are 1. if for some reason the brake gets damaged, it would fuck over the entire barrel, 2. would allow me to mount different things (have looked into suppressing it), and 3. should reduce the cost significantly. If it is threaded on correctly, it should look invisible. Am I approaching this with solid logic? Also do any Swissanons know of any potential people I could send the removeable FCU to maybe in Switzerland to have it polished and made to feel really nice? Since it uses pins to attach to the receiver which is the serialized part as far as the US is concerned I probably can send it anywhere I want without difficulties. Might get a butter dish scope mount with a pic rail but that's for later. Thank ye. It's been a weird time in my life with COVID and lack of job ambition repeating the year again and again and again but I really need to move on with my life lmao.

Speaking of, out the box the charging handle is pretty stiff and i noticed a pretty significant amount of metal shavings on the charging handle and within the tube/some on the bolt carrier when removed. Thereβs a burr on the bottom hole on the tube for punching the charging handle pin, a larger burr/gouge on the interior of the tube, and the pin was walked out enough to bind inside the tube but i hammered it back in place. Should i be concerned about the burrs/shavings or will they iron themselves out during break-in?

You could have HK original parts, cold hammer forged barrel, a stronger trunnion, etc. Is it worth it? I'm new to G3s so this might be a retarded question.

Nta but it takes me 35min just to get to town, another 20 to get to the nearest range, which is shotgun only, an un-air conditioned 25yd indoor range is an additional 40min from town and has hours long waits on Sat-Sun. If I want to shoot rifles at a distance, itβs 3 1/2 hours to the 600yd steel plate range, or 2 hours and change to get to a suitable desert location.
You people have it lucky.

Hey gang, galilfag here, anyone have a 16 or 18" fal who has input on if they wish theyd gone with the other? im looking at selling my imbel rifle to a friend of mine to buy a para fal. Im stuck between 16 and 18" barrel. The 16 looks way better but ive heard they have reliability issues related to gassing and that the muzzle flash is absurd. I have a 16" scout rifle (picrel) and i can attest to the muzzle flash, but i haven't really heard consistent answers one way or the other on reliability. Just looking for some input before i get one. If anyone in new england happens to have either one and doesnt mind letting me throw a few mags through it email me at Galilfag@protonmail.com. Ill bring the 308 galil to sweeten the pot lol.

I have a 16in SA58 and it's ran great with whatever kind of brass ammo I've fed it, even when I've been a little lazy about cleaning and lubing. Only time it's given me trouble is when I've had to fuck with the gas, but I haven't had to do that in 1000~ rounds or so.
I can't say I've noticed the muzzle flash being all that bad, but I also can't say it's something I've really paid attention to.

Flash isn't bad on the para model FALs. 16" is what you want for peak compactness and weight savings. There's the pistol FAL option but those don't save much on weight and you get extreme flash with awful blow back concussion.
>The 16 looks way better but ive heard they have reliability issues related to gassing and that the muzzle flash is absurd
If they are, they don't exist on video cause I've never seen a Para FAL that didn't work, that was made in the last ten years. Your two options are a complete og manufacturer's Para FAL or a new dsa Para FAL. Stay away from the various imported parts build FAL that were frankenstein'd together.

After discussion with one of my other gunsmith friends, im just gunna convert it over to a para fal instead of selling and buying a new one. Seems like the reliability issues I heard of were primarily from people chopping 21" barrel fals to 16" and not enlarging the gas port. Im probably just gunna go with a 16" barrel. If i really hate the muzzle flash ive been considering caving and getting a suppressor anyway.

If it had stayed as the standard for heavy combat in Vietnam it would have a more negative reputation than it was left with, it's just that the xm16s rushed into production with hot ammo given to troops with minimal familiarization spelled disaster in 1967. The M14 though had its own set of issued, certainly would've been outgunned by AK47s when they took over as the main combatant weapon.

I hope your not thinking of selling the Imbel to get a DSA. DSA parts like the Para top cover and springs suck. 18" definitely on a FAL. The real 50.63 are 17.2

You won't be able to comfortably fire the ParaFAL with the stock folded like you do can with Galil. The stock hits my knuckle. There's a reason you never see photos of BOPE with stocks folded

I know, thats basically 90% of my gunsmithing projects. I already have all the tooling so its kinda whatever. Im not 100% sold on it, Im gunna see if any local friends want my imbel before i commit to it but if not its not a huge deal.
>>64371026
Yup, I have a friend who owns a gun store who specializes in selling parts kits and milsurp parts among actual milsurp and normal guns. Im gunna take stock of my parts and decide if i wanna build another fal or if not he said hed buy them off me to put in his store as a partial kit
>>64371034
yeah i totally could
>>64373050
Im wrong handed so i dont think it should be an issue with the stock hitting my hand. I mainly want it for hiking and camping trips. I do a lot of backcountry hiking and XC skiing and NH is one of the most densely forested parts of the country. Having a folding stock off trail has been a benefit i didnt know would be as useful as it is. Thanks for the heads up on the DSA top covers. Ill be using a railed top cover on this one anyway and i have an acquaintance who hasnt had any issues with his railed cover.

BM-59 and the bubba-ized Argentine FN-49 with a box mag are infinitely better guns that also don't have military incompetence and corruption hanging over them. It's perfectly justifiably hated.

All of this is a stigma you choose to prioritize in your head over function. Hold onto your bias until it is all you have. Real strength is not found in hate, but in forgivness.

STGWanon back again. Got bored and browsed GB, saw someone selling NOS barrels. Never heard of them, but checked the website. Had a pleasant conversation with the owner. He's supposedly getting some more NOS barrels in soon. 2 different grades depending on how much original finish you want. Got the last of the best grades. Here is the website, I am not shilling but it is only fair to share resources
https://proteusarmaments.com/
Lots of people lately making modern barrels for them including someone who actually does do threaded muzzles/flush mounted brake/flash hiders but it's a weird barrel to get right on an individual level. Will probably pick up a few barrels if I ever get this built since those are the hardest parts to replace.
As of now, I finally have all the parts to make the STGW57, just gotta find someone to do the trunnions, receiver, and barrel, but outside of the receiver she will be 100% all original parts, all matching outside of the barrel. Very excited!

Save up your money and get one. XCR are great rifles, their only down side is that they're a little heavy, but Robinson Arms have continually updated the base design, making minor improvements over the decades. You might think that small minor improvements aren't much, yet that's what you want. When you have a system that works, you don't fuck with it and create new problems.
XCR are also fairly priced. Scar 17's used to be $2,800 when they released, but new ones go for $3600. XCR on the other hand were around $3,000 but can be found on sale for as low as $2,200.

Ok boomer.
Its 2025, plenty of videos of guys shooting 14.5" 6.5 sneedmoor rifles out to 1000m effectively. Let alone the fact this rifle is setup for 500m and in engagements where you don't need max velocity.....hence the MRRG-ASSAULTER designation.

Thanks anons, its a 5.56 BDC I originally had on a carry handle but since its close enough to 7.62 out to 300m i figured iβd use it. I got an AC Unity handguard and a bipod and 400rd of Fiochi 247gr in the mail the other day. I donβt like the texture of the AC Unity plastic so Iβm very tempted to paint the furniture with FDE using krylon or the brownells spray cans for a smooth durable finish that wears slowly
