Can we get a suppressor thread going? I need some help picking out a .30 caliber suppressor. I'm going to use it for multiple firearms (.223, 6.5, etc.) so it needs to be a great all around suppressor. Also who's going to go on a shopping spree come January? I'm sure there will be a surge in purchases, but with the whole FIFO system removed there shouldn't be too many roadblocks to a quick processing. It's not like the government can't handle that kind of thing. I get my 1040EZ approved in less than a day typically.

I'm addicted bros, and I need more. I have 2 short .22 suppressors but I want a full size .22 suppressor and a dedicated .30cal can. I currently have a .338, .45 rifle and .45 pistol. I wish silencer central sould different caliber end caps as I only shoot 10MM through my pistol supressor.

The biggest question is if the firearms are gas operated or manual, and somewhat related what sort of duty schedule/usage. If manual you can just focus on the best performance for the dollar, and material doesn't really matter because you aren't mag dumping through it ever. If gas guns then you almost 100% want a flow-through at this point, even with adjustable gas blocks. I've used high bp cans with highly adjustable auto guns and while I could make them run just fine the gas face irritation is real and the difference with a flow can is very nice. If you're going to be having FRT fun then you probably want steel or inconel and not titanium, though with a flow can and long enough barrel might still be ok.

Not me probably. I'm very excited about the end of the stamp but more due to what might eventually come out on the market, like a return of integral handgun designs and barrel option. But I'd be surprised if any manufacturers are holding anything back for it. Pleasantly surprised, but still surprised. I think interesting new products will be a longer term evolution not day 1. I'm well covered with what I want to do for rifles right now so I'll wait and see how things develop.

This is a common meme about it but I agree with other anons that I don't think it'll be an issue. Like, dude, the volume of actual normal gun purchases is orders of magnitude higher then NFA purchases. The roadblocks before were manual data entry (ie, not eforms) and the old strict-FIFO system. Now it's just a somewhat more irritating to setup bit of interfacing with the standard instant background check infra.

For handguns yeah, but for rifles I've actually been pretty surprised how well some 30cal cans measure for 556/223 (granted not that that's saying much since those suppress like shit regardless).

I do think that multical is going to become pretty much obsolete though under the new system because cans will plummet in price so much. Very decent quality stuff is going to be a few hundred bucks at most. Just like in other areas of gun accessories there will be 5x-10x price products sure but it'll only get you another 10-20%. It'll be nice to just be able to throw a decent can each on a pile of guns for less then a single can now.

Fine enough, I have one and it works well enough with the Q .22 can. Loading the magazine to full capacity tends to cause a failure to feed on the second round, but that's the only issue I've experienced

Why? Though the trigger isn't great (was apparently much improved in gen 3 but that never got general release) the gun itself is awesome, surprisingly nice balance and easy to shoot, and still suppresses 9mm near the top of anything on the market. Easy to work on too. I only regret not buying a few more when they were going for like $900.

This. I've noticed that most people that obsess about the hypothetical drawbacks of shooting through an oversized can (with or without an appropriately sized endcap) have never tried it and are simply parroting something that they heard from someone else that's never tried it, or else they're using a shitty can that sucks even in its intended caliber. It's a small enough difference that a good .30 can will outperform a mediocre .223 can in 5.56mm.

All other things being equal (and they usually are, given how many manufacturers are still stuck on basic bitch K-baffels), a larger caliber can will have more internal volume, and volume matters more than a few thous of diameter on the endcap.

Don't sweat the endcaps. If you set up a test under the right conditions with the right equipment, you may be able demonstrate a small difference in performance, but it's nothing that you'll notice with your ears. Don't overthink it.

NFA wait times got short because the courts fucked the ATF and said the approval process needs to be sped up or applications will be auto-approved. They still aren't allowed to take their sweet time approving forms, regardless of the amount of applications.

Looking to get a suppressor for a .32 acp next year when its free to file.
Slim pickings for that caliber so I will have to settle for a close enough one.
Will the performance be fuckhuge different if I get the closest diameter possible suppressor vs a 9mm or just a "good enough".

I know ballistic autism and ammo variety will impact things too but mostly a general idea here.

lol wut. No you can't, not unless you're doing hog control or similar mass shooting. As well as hunting I do prs with 300wm and I STILL don't have to worry about scope mirage with a bare can for a number of shots. And heat distortion matters a lot at range sure, but it doesn't mean you're now 30moa off at a few hundred yards. Effectively all normal hunting of white tail etc is <200yd and most <100yd. 2-4moa is plenty good enough accuracy if you take the time to study vitals like you should. You should only need one shot with a cold gun, and if you fuck up it'll be cold again by the time you get done tracking and need another (or else you'll be able to walk right up to finish the job at which point you could just use a sidearm even).

It's a common issue with that factory mag; I really don't understand why Beretta didn't just stamp a line on the mag (for visual cues) or mill out the injection mold for the follower to add a nub to prevent overtravel. I see a lot of people say they had jams until they loaded to the proper round count and >>64364271 may also be doing it. Hell, they make it easy enough as the follower does drop low enough where it isn't really unreasonable to shove that eighth round in, especially if you aren't counting.

Retard. There's no BS about backpressure, particularly when you're dealing with a round that you're still going to need to use earpro with for much shooting regardless. Gas face sucks. Also though as it happens for 556 flow through cans are the best performers anyway. I don't think anything at all has yet performed better then a FLOW 556 Ti, unlike with 30cal (which the Hyperion K is, like it's also an older design at this point + shortened and doesn't at all match the top but why would use a 30cal can for 556 anyway?). Though PTR and CAT cans are also very good, assuming paying absolute top $$ for minor bumps doesn't bother you, and that new CAT one is low bp also.

Hard to recommend dropping that kind of dosh on any can at this point though.

Anyone have experience with the Osprey 2.0 45? I’m thinking of getting one to use on my USP45 as well as a 9mm P226 and 92A1, I really like the way it looks but I understand there’s more to it than that. It wouldn’t be used for anything other than looking cool when I shoot

So if I decide to go for a .30 caliber can to cover a range of rifles, which would be the best one suited for that? I keep seeing a lot about the Dead Air Nomad 30, but it just seems too inexpensive for a high-end suppressor. Maybe I'm conflating the idea of costly with quality?

there is no one can that's best for multiple rifles, at best you'll find one that's great on one rifle and mediocre on others. At worst you'll get one that you wind up having to buy the right gun for. Focus on the gun you want to suppress the most.

Dead Air has had a series of major issues and the Nomad is a really dated design at this point, mid-pack performance at best but poor efficiency in terms of back pressure. That said you don't need to pay $1000+ to have top class performance either, cans like the Enticer L-Ti or Jolene perform amongst the absolute best for around $800 (which make no mistake is still damn fucking expensive). The Lahar 30-L is around $700. Even $500 stuff can still get you a lot of the way there.

But if the "range of rifles" aren't all manuals or least autos with AGBs you need to pay attention to other aspects of the can too.

Right now its a Velos or a Cat for my 16" but I haven't fixated on any brand yet.
Considering swapping out my 16" upper for a 13.7"-14" upper...
Only problem is I'll have to pay a gunsmith to get the muzzle device off a 13.7"
So really I'm just going to deal with my 16" upper for now

those are too different in diameter for one can to work well on all of them. I have a 9mm can with an endcap hole of .405, I put it on my 300blk and it basically doesn't work at all; subs are as loud as supers.

Bolt 6.5 will suppress very well with a quality 30cal can and you can just pick based on best sound reduction for your budget.

For the AR though back pressure will matter. If you don't have an AGB for it already then it matters a lot, you need something very low bp to even work reliably. If you do have a quality sufficiently adjustable block then that combined with more volume for a 30cal can will let it run fine, but still keep in mind gas face is pretty unfun. 300bo will experience this less due to less gas etc.

If you give a price range I can give a few specific suggestions, but all that said I think I'd focus on maximizing performance for the 6.5, which will also do well for the 300bo. If you find you like suppressors a lot with your AR you can always invest in something specifically for the AR down the road to reduce bp, particularly as the market heats up over the next few years.

Then going slightly above your range but real close ($720 or $750, without any sales) Resilient's Jolene and Aero's Lahar-30L are probably the best performing ones you'll get there. If you really want to cut weight and are willing to tolerate somewhat more sound while also keeping price down or want to go quite budget some of Otter Creek's stuff should do ok, the cheapest hydrogen or the polonium 30. None of those are the fanciest stuff with hub and all that but for the 6.5 and 300bo should all be enjoyable.

Obviously if you buy now you'll be paying a few hundred premium to enjoy it for the next 3 months but I assume you have that factored in. I don't think waiting for that amount necessarily makes sense anyway given all the uncertainty at this point.

That I won't pretend to know, I've only experienced (or seen tested) the L. The shorter one of course will perform worse but be lighter/shorter, any can design can make use of more volume for gas control. But to what actual degree (what the return curve looks like is a matter of design and mark of a skilled company or not) I honestly have no idea. That said, even the L is only 7.7" long or so, which isn't bad for a 30cal can (my bolt gun can, an older design, is 9.5" long for example), so it's not like you're going from ginormous to tiny but decent to even shorter. Your call on that one.
