The funniest part is it's the 2nd iteration of IMBEL repeating FN's own doomed quest to make a 5.56 FAL which eventually resulted in the CAL. pic related is the previous.
Notable is that after the CAL turned out to be a flop and FN's extensive effort was in vain, they just replaced it with the cleansheet FNC.

Both it, the the previous iteration and the CAL ended up needing such extensive redesigning their actual FAL lineage is very limited.
And even more amusingly, the INSAS started with the same idea too.
