Hear me out. If you look at the damaged areas you can see the aft portion has hinges, a handle, and no rivets. This inclines me to believe it's an access panel where fiberglass would make sense. The fore damage appears to be to a removable cowling, which would also make sense to be made out of fiberglass.
The fact that it shot itself in the nose will never not be funny as hell though.
