the equivalent US code phrases exist, but actual use is fairly rare. while you might do so in desperation, ideally your air support keeps you from ever being in that situation to begin with.

I know the Canadians called in NZ artillery on their own position in Kapyong Valley when they got overran.

Nowadays artillery is an entirely different beast compared to the 50s unless youre using mass of force over precision strikes. Radios are actively discouraged in hot zones because you can get zeroed in within 7 seconds. And that's with old shitty cold war tech. Id imagine it's less than 3 with actual NATO tech.
Creeping barrage with open location data definitely makes future acts of calling in artillery on your own position very difficult since dead dudes dont use radios.

Easy to say today. A Ukrainian soldier on the frontline in 2022 doesn't have the same overview of things than a foreign armchair strategist 3 years into the conflict.
Again, an enemy advance is stopped great in part because people are ready to make sacrifices

Generally, in the west, not having to die to stop the enemy or destroy a position is seen as an ideal outcome.
That's why Shermans were built to survive combat and improve crew survivability, while T-34s were just built as quickly as possible and dumped en-mass against the Germans.
