>The papers outline specific technical aims for the T-90M2 upgrade. Engineers are said to be revising the fighting compartment and addressing a long-standing mechanical issue by refining the transmission and adding a reverse gear. The modernization also includes the installation of larger video-observation displays, described in the documents as panels โ€œwith a diagonal of not less than 38 cmโ€ to improve crew situational awareness. Frontelligence Insight adds that โ€œa similar fighting compartment is planned to be installed on the T-80.โ€

This is on top of the upgrades the T-90M Proryv-3 brought.

They literally can't, they're using the same BKP transmission units as found on the T-64 to this day. The Ukrainians put a transfer case in the final drive of their T-84 Oplot to get around the abysmal reverse speed (which is also the lowest gear to help pull out other tanks, which is why it is so damn slow because ARVs are for capitalist pigdogs) of the BKP but they're running up against growth limits as to what the suspension and drivetrain can handle. The T-84 descends from the T-80UD so this should say a lot more about how growth limited the T-90s are given they're T-72 hulls.

I was surprised Mil didn't fuck Kamov over in UAC given how many Ka-52s were picked over the abomination that is the Mi-28 and "third crew rescue spot" aka the empty space in the tail.

Drones are not great
But no ones managed to find anything that works against the last generations of top-attack munitions and they will turn most everything into a busted unit. More importantly the drones enjoy dominance in a relatively static environment when they can set up, maintain high levels of battlefield observation and intelligence to respond. But if you're dealing with a force on the hop that's moving fast and needs a seeing to, you want the top-attack munitions on that kind of scale to deal with them.
Assuming of course you don't have arty + air to help on the more macro-level of countering armoured movement

What's insane is that already back in the fucking Soviet era the Ukrainians (Kharkiv) were already pushing for ammo to be stored in a separate bulkhead. The T64 was Ukrainian (Malyshev) and higher performance and was considered too complex so the Russian (Ural) T62 was the mainstay of the USSR. Later the Russian T80 (Omsk) was developed from the T64 but with a gas turbine engine. This too was considered too complex for mass production, so the Russian (Ural) T72 became the mainline tank of the USSR and was much much lower performance. The T72 was designed as a secondary tank, the low in a high low mix. The Ukrainian T80UD (Malyshev) with a boxer 12 cylinder engine instead of the gas turbine was to be the mass produced higher spec vehicle but the Russians just decided to spam more and more and more lower performance T72s and their variants. The T90 is just a T72 upgrade. It's actually lower performance than the T80/T80UD. The Ukrainians developed the T80UD into the T84 which is higher spec than the T90. Russians ALWAYS go for the cheap low spec version and hope they can just spam it. They simply don't fucking understand that simply having a bigger number of things doesn't mean that they will win. They can't comprehend that sometimes quality does beat quantity.

As a reminder: The T-62 design was rejected because the USSR thought that idea of a basic improvement over the T-55 that could be upgraded in the future with a bigger gun or turret was a dumb idea. The USSR also hated the T-62 because it could not fit a autoloader.

Almost 80 years later T-62s are still being made while it has been 3 decades since any other Soviet based design has been produced. The DPRK makes more tanks and tank hulls than Russia and have done so for 30 years, the T-62 design has been completely and totally vindicated.

It is pathetic that it has taken Russia since 1961 to realize the reality of modern armored warfare.

>French and German equivalents are also suffering from this

Firstly, there are no german and specially no French tanks deployed in this war.
But they are many turkish tanks deployed directly from the turkish depots made in Germany, that are suffering losses the turkish regime's own inability in Warfare.

So to hide the turkish's weakness, you shift the blame on the Western manufacturers or attempt to drag other, who are strong, at the same level on military's idiocy.

When the turkish are beaten by the Kurdish freedom fighters and other, |they also tried to blame on the German patreons but this was debunked; the fucking equipment was good, but the one who deployed it, the ridiculous and disgusting turkish regime, was bad at war and they clumsy.

>only drones didnt exist
Nope, the mediocres turkish drones are shot down and hold no utility on |the Battlefield. They are not the future and you wouldn't think about darling claiming the opposite if putin wasn't an moron who dowgraded his own military's offensive capabilities and mislead, took some idiotic decisions and didn't deployed his infantry properly.

There's a point to be made that a lot of shit will overwhelm high quality gear. Especially in the instance of armored warfare, but it all kind of goes to shit if you don't have the logistics to back it up and on top of that your adversaries managed to create top-attack missile and other ATGM's which turn a single penetrating hit from disastrous to right out catastrophic. Once that totally unprotected carousel get hit youโ€™re fucked.

I still like how some videogames like to pretend the T-series are hot shit, meanwhile weโ€™ve seen Western tanks take multiple hits and eventually cook-off. Any penetrating hit on the side of a T-series tanks shows them blowing up instead. Real fucking telling.

โ€œPeople here donโ€™t understand that Russia has the largest tankite deposits in the world,โ€ the old engineer said, coughing diesel fumes through his respirator. โ€œWe mine it raw from the Ural strata โ€” Tankitenite-72, shimmering under the frost like frozen oil. You can smell the steel in it.โ€

In the year 3045, the Earth is long divided into Resource Domains, each fighting over the last usable veins of weaponized minerals. The Americans lost their Freedomite seams during the Silicon Collapse. Europeโ€™s Democracium cracked under austerity. But in the East, deep beneath the ruins of Chelyabinsk, Russia still digs โ€” and refines.

Their foundries hum day and night, fed by the sacred ore: Tankitenite. Smelted with rare elements like Vodkium, Scrapite, and the last traces of Stalinium โ€” the mythical metal once believed extinct after the Great Purge of Alloys.

They say only the T-Forge Priests remember the process of true Stalinium refinement. They wear boilerplate cassocks and carry relic torque wrenches, chanting:

โ€œThrough pressure, through heat, through glorious overengineering โ€” we resurrect the machine!โ€

But the truth is grim. The pure veins are gone. Modern tanks roll off the lines built of shit tankites โ€” brittle, flammable, and haunted by the ghosts of unpaid factory workers. Their turrets jam. Their tracks crumble. Yet the propaganda still calls them invincible.

Deep underground, in the secret mines of Novouralsk, the last unrefined chunk of pure Stalinium lies encased in concrete, guarded by the Iron Commissars. Legends say that when Russia truly falters, it will be melted down to forge one final tank โ€” the Tsar of Armor, the T-โˆž โ€” whose engine will run not on fuel, but on patriotism itself.

The problem really is the loose ammo around the compartment. If an enemy round is able to punch through your front glacis, through the gun breach, and through the corousel and hit the wet stowage fuel tank, you were fucked long before that. The big issue is the loose stuff around the turret. The commander is literally sitting on two loose propelent charges. The gunner has shells strapped right next to his head - there are shells right on the back of the turret wall. The carousel is too low for a direct hit, if the tank crew is good and knows how to hide the lower hull. Retards bitch about the Leo2 having it's stoage at the front of the hull, but they forget it's part of the german army doctrine - the ammo is behind the most heavilly deffended part of the tank, and it was expected the the crew wouuld know to hide the hull behind berms, or in tank positions - it was assumed that Germany would be on the deffensive.

hull storage is dangerous because it is a potential threat from almost any angle of attack
a penetrating frontal hit will lose most of its energy punching through the thick armor, so if the ammo is in the way of the degraded round, then it could cause what would have been an M-kill into a K-kill

attacks from the side will likely hit the hull rather than the turret, its less well protected than the turret and its larger
so its more likely to be targeted, more likely to be hit, and more likely to be penetrated

the only place where hull storage is safe is from a total-rear attack, but these constitute a minority of engagement angles

Except they were completely correct in that the T-62 design was a dead end due to the choice of gun caliber compared to the T-55. A higher performance and penetration 100mm gun and rounds were right around the corner and out performed the T-62โ€™s 115mm up to the current day. The 115 is an awkward middle child and the T-62 while an improvement over the contemporary T-55 is inferior to the T-64 on every technical level. It still has an ammunition cook off problem as the ammo is stored directly behind the driver. It has less powerful engines. It has less visibility. It has a fucking awful shell ejection system too. Not to mention a lack of composite armor.

Nork copies (Chonma-Ho) arenโ€™t really that good either, with inferior composite armor on the later models and while itโ€™s impressive they got as much out of the design as they did (itโ€™s also often inferior to the T-62 baseline, not even the M, Nork copies have thinner armor and worse optics than the Russian ones) itโ€™s telling their current designs are ditching the T-62 gun and design scheme completely.

Always but Uralvagonzavod-Kartsev had the Kremlin's dick in their mouth or something. They always were the preferred option no matter how shit their designs were and how they actually ended up costing more (T-64 at Kharkiv had production optimizations making it cost less than lower capability T-72s early on, used less strategic resources). There was always lobbying between the design bureaus and factories but UVZ had that has that as their superpower as the most retarded factory x bureau combo.

The problem isn't UVZ shitting out slopware. The problem is that the Russian Army and the government have been made aware countless times of the modifications necessary to the T-90 line of tanks to make them safe enough for tanking. The Gov and Amry just don't want to commit the funds to it because they're still operating in that old WWII tank spam mentality.

most of its parts were standardized with the T-55 and crew training for these two tanks were so similar that practically no transitional training was required for a T-55 crew member to transfer to a T-62. In this respect, the relationship between the T-62 and the T-55 was quite similar to the relationship between the M48 Patton and the M60

As far as I know there are no domestic russian 100mm apfsds round that outperform 115mm apfsds.

Only the Belgians or other western countries (maybe israel and some african countries like South africa?) produce or rather have built 100mm apfsds that outperform russian 115mm.

The initial T-64 had the 115 too, and the 100 is a dead caliber if you want to make cheap ammo and barrels that performs well against future threats. The 115 had a considerable advantage against armor, more than going from the 115 to the 125.
All the problems related to the 115 started with making it a "bastard" caliber of the 125 and cancelling the T-62M (125mm of the 1960s) which forced it to remain in service with a 2nd tier tank after the 1970s.
